land move bug?

Post by Bladesss »

un-lurking, I think I baught the 2nd copy sold at Origins, met Mogami.

1. Win XP, I am alt-tabing over to Excel to take notes, 3 times now I get some video curruption when I return. A square block of the map usually Singapore/Phil,Java becomes garbled, overlayed with hexes about 3 times to big, can see the icons at normal scale under it, somewhat out of focus. Have to completely exit the game to fix. I realize that alt-tab stresses the system and I am doing it a lot, so I am not concerned, just letting you know.

2. Have had 2 problems with movement in Burma. The game starts with 1st & 2nd Burma Inf X in Moulmein. In my game they made an uncommanded move to Pagan (12/8/41) (or the campaign game starts with them having move orders?) . I noted this after they moved the first hex, and gave new orders to set up behind the river at Rangoon (30,34). But they kept moving. On each of the next 3 days I gave them new orders to move back to the Rangoon river line. but was ignores as they continue moving to Pagan. When they arrived at Pagan, they say Destination:none and I can successfully give them orders now to return to the Rangoon river line.
My point is that I was was unable to effectively change the move orders until after they reached there destination. The manual seems to say that I should have been able to.

3. On 12/10/41 I gave the BFF Inf X (TaungGyi) orders to advance to Rangoon, It started moving. It reached Pagan successfully, but then did an uncommanded divert to Akyab. (There was a Japanese air strike at Rangoon, but I don't see why that would effect a move order.) At Akyab its destination changed to None, and i have again given it orders to move to Rangoon. The BFF was passing through Pagan the same day as my other 2 problem brigades were arriving there, so this may be a connected problem. Maybe they infected this unit with disobediance somehow.

Hiya Bladess - I probably saw you there buying it :)

1. I also have the same problem with the video corruption when Alt-Tabbing out - but as soon as I do ANYTHING at all it instantly corrects it...

2. A lot of units (at least Japanese) start the campaign game with preexisting orders - as for the Allied units I don't know - haven't messed with them.

3. I have no idea.. Just make sure the area is not under computer control.

You didn't happen to toggle computer control on for that zone?

Mr Frag, on the first turn, I did toggle all the zones to computer, then took manual control of India and Burma where I am playing. It is possible that I missed them, but dont think so. Anyway when I noticed them moving on 12/8/41, they were under human control.

Giving the computer control of the region, then selecting what I wanted seemed safer, because any hexes that I might have misses, whould at least be under computer control

But my concern was more about why I could not get them to change destination then why they moved in the first place.

For the video curruption, mine does not fix itself, and even if I save and exit back to the scenario screen, it is still there when I return. I have to completely exit the game to fix it.

If they are until the control of the AI, you have to turn it off before you can issue orders. The AI is moving the troops for you because you told it to.

Try updating your video drivers - I've had many games in the past work wierd until I did so.

Do not Alt-Tab with ANY panel open or during execution of the turn.

As long as you are sitting at the main screen, you will not have any problems.

There is also a midnight clearing of the screen during the turn execution to take care of any of these glitches.

Mr Frag, you are probably correct about having panels open as I ALt-tab. But the reason I am alt-tabing is to copy the info from the panels over to excel. (base supplies, unit strengths, experiance, morale, fatigue, disruption, location, ect.) so that I can learn over several weeks, what effects these values.
So closing the panels defeats the purpose.
Like I said, I realize that Alt-tab stresses the program, and I suspect I will just have to live with the video curruption.

For a game of this complexity, I still think it have been remarkably bug free.

Ha, always a solution [:D]

Open the panel, hit your Print Screen key. Close the panel.

You can now alt-tab and Ctrl-V the screen of information into any problem that handles art. Even Wordpad will handle it. [;)]
