DD vs, Wait for the CD?
Help, please... I have seen allusions to DD vs. buying the physical CD... but can't find any definitive guidance.... I would like to purchase the DD but understand that on slow connections, it can be problematic....
I live in the technological equivalent of Middle Earth and have a 56 K (slower in practice) dial-up connection.... my question is (are), should I do the digital download or wait for the CD? AND, any news on when the CD package will be available? Thanks, if anyone is still listening before marching off in the direction of the P.I.
Regards to all waiting,
Burkowski

From DR's customer help:
What is the Backup CD program?
Protect your purchase with a backup CD. Get a backup CD of your downloadable software mailed directly to you on a CD. This feature is only available as an additional service to the purchase of a digital product and cannot be purchased as a stand alone product.

RE: DD vs, Wait for the CD?
Please tell me that they are not screwing everyone with 56K dial up. I thought that they were going to do the Jewel case like the ones at Origins. I have 6 friends who are waiting to buy it, but if it is DD only, they will not buy it. Who wants to spend a day or more waiting and praying you do not get disconnected half way thru. I will not even download the patch for HTTR because it is so big.

2ndACR (were you in that unit, or just a fan of it?),
You do not have to download it, but in order to get the CD mailed to you you have to place the digital download order and then select the CD-on-demand to get that sent. Once that has been placed, if you want to download it, you can - otherwise, you can just wait for the CD to arrive.
The initial CD orders are just for the CD. In August, we will be able to provide Box-on-demand where the CD will come in a DVD case, but the CD option will be available from the start (once we are finished getting DR to enable it).

- Erik

And you should be able to restart a disrupted download if you get bumped off the line. If you don't trust DR's use a thirdparty download manager.

RE: DD vs, Wait for the CD?
So, the backup CD is merely mailed in a sleeve, right?
RE: DD vs, Wait for the CD?
Thanks, Erik and Zoomie.... sorry if I'm dense... I'm an appliance operator! When the "go" is given, I'll order the DD and wait for the CD to arrive....

Erik,
Yep, E trp 2/2 ACR Bamberg, Ger 1990-late91 when we were deactivated and reactivated in the states. 19D.
Thank you, I was about to blow a blood vessel about the DD. I can handle a sleeve if it is one of the thick ones to protect the disc. I might even wait until Aug to buy, give the masses time to trip over any remaining (small) bugs. But I do not think my nerves will handle that long of a delay.

There's no reason why, unless you really want a box. DR won't be able to offer it any earlier, so that's when it will have to be. The game via download and on CD will be available today.

2ndACR,
Thanks for your service, I have a friend who was in the 2nd ACR around the same time in an M109 battery.
I'm not sure how sturdy the sleeve itself is, but the CD is carefully packed and should survive shipment in perfect condition.

RE: DD vs, Wait for the CD?
2ndACR....If you have a friend that has Cable/DSL and a burner....????? Who knows..maybe you can get them hooked too....... or someone that might have a business with High Speed DL capabilities....just a thought....if none of the above...order CD...wait.....then play......better late than never..... Good luck.....
RE: DD vs, Wait for the CD?
I am really confused, why is the download $69.99 and EB Games is going to be $39.99. I mean we would be buying it direct with no middle man if we get it from Matrix. Is anybody else as confused about this as i am?

This game is being sold directly by Matrix. EB will never have it as it is not being offered through retail. EB's information is about 4 years out of date.

RE: DD vs, Wait for the CD?
Ok I may have been really stupid last night but it was late and I was excited
From England currently in Iraq and wont be near a internet conection for the next couple of weeks and didnt know if it was going to make the UK/europe store before then so order the DD off the US store and the backup CD with the intention of getting the missus to do the download for me whilst im out here..... for another couple of weeks hoping it would be ready to go the moment I get home (56k modem) I didnt want the extra wait
in the cold light of day the chances of my better half managing to do that without deleting the hard drive seems remote....
thats ok as long as I get the backup CD. so the question is do I still get the CD shipped to the UK if ordered from the US store or have I just made a complete arse of myself????

The CD will still be shipped to whichever location you specified, I'm just not sure if by using the US store you will have it shipped from the US warehouse or if they'll ship from the European warehouse. Either way, it will get there, but one will take longer. The CD-On Demand cost covers all shipping of the CD, regardless of location.

So let me see if I've got this right, the only reason the CD won't be available until August for those with dial-ups is because the box isn't ready? The last time I checked UPS, FedEx, USPS, Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart and the like all have protective mailers for shipping CDs.

No, you´re wrong.
The CD on demand is ready now. In August we will introduce a new feature called "box on demand". Then you will be able to also get a boxed version if you want.
