Mission Question...

Post by Erik Rutins »

John, et. al.

Day 6 of Highland, I'm on a strike mission to the foothill base (on a planet). Seems to be a runway with some buildings. The lock-on point is a dot in between the runways and that's where all the AGMs seem to want to go. My own fighter-bomber and three others unload a total of 16 AGMs and the base seems to be barely scratched. Should we be aiming at a different point or am I just missing something obvious? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

First is to make sure you are striking the right foothill base [:D]

I accidentally blew up a friendly starport once....

*Ahem*

If you are using the Bomber, you can polish off Foothill Base with guns.

Otherwise I would attempt to angle yourself so that the missiles collide with the model.

Thirdly you can just let AI units destroy it in a sortie. (They will eventually if you're doing other stuff)
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.

Shoe,

Thanks, unfortunately I tried pummelling the buildings with guns afterward and after quite a while got it to yellow. In the meantime, I watched my wingmen crash into the ground - I had to wonder if something was wrong in that mission as they've been behaving normally otherwise. The base itself is a red target and seems to be at the nav point so I'm pretty sure I've got the right one.

I'll post more tomorrow when I have a chance, just going on memory now in the midst of all this release work.

Sounds about right. Those starbases are pretty tough targets; don't expect to kill them in a single run.

John,

Thanks, that helps. I got confused when the target point seemed to just be grass in the middle of the runways and 16 AGMs didn't leave a mark. Should I be aiming those AGMs at the buildings? In other words, is the small dot the optimal aiming point or is damage to runways and adjacent buildings taken into account? I'd love to finish this one off when the releases are done for some late night stress relief.

Also, any idea on why my wingmen were lawn darting?

You have to hit the runways or the buildings (i.e. an actual part of the model) in order to do damage. You can use the ';' key to cycle between the two runway subsystems to make it easier to hit them.

Ah, thanks, that explains my defect. Much appreciated, I don't have as much time as I'd like for this sort of thing, so please excuse the oversight.
