bug in "scoring" for successful missions?

Post by spacerat »

I was on a mission as a destroyer captain and my mission was just to destroy this other destoyer. Being the efficent little captain I destroyed a total of 2 enemy destroyers and 1 frigate and lost 1 friendly frigate. My ending score: 10. Um..is this a bug?

If you haven't started Starshatter again since then-

Look in the file "Errlog.txt" for a long score table that lists some statistics for every ship: two types of kills, died, collisions, score, and command score.

If I had to guess I'd say that the other destroyer/frigate in your squadron got the actual kills
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.

I think you only get normal points for kill shots, and you get command points when one of your subordinates gets a kill shot. Regardless of who kills a target your side in the campaign should get those points as well, though.

You don't get any points if you lose your ship.

Sounds reasonable, dead men tell no tales. [:D]

It's not supposed to be quite that draconian. If you lose your ship, you are penalized 2.5 times its value on your mission score. So spacerat should have earned credit for 1.5 destroyers and 8 fighters, even though he lost his ship. I'll have to look into that and see if I can reproduce it.

I have the same experience - ship blows up and the accumulated score for kills drops to 0.

You can still get command points though, just nothing for what you destroyed personally.
Very good motivator to keep your ship intact though ;)

I thought Force:Space just didn't want to promote people who keep losing their property. [:)]

I wish the screen showed Command Score, it's irritating spending hours and wasting an entire enemy fleet and receiving only 120 points of score for the few fighters my carrier blows up. [;)]

Yes, I doubt it would be difficult to add cmd points to point score shown on the debriefing screen.
