Bug splitting air groups on CVs?

I split a fighter group into 3 subgroups and then split a dive-bomber group into its 3 sebgroups. After that I exited the screen and went to another ship. When I returned, I was able to recombine the fighter group but there was no recombine button for any of the three dive-bomber sub groups. Is there still a limit of 5 groups on a cv? That might be the problem because, after splitting, there were 7 groups there.
