Incoming Campaign: "The Cut of the Sickle: Blitzkrieg on France -1940"

Post by Gallo Rojo »

Greetings!!

I’m working on a 10 to 12 campaign covering the German Blitzkrieg on France in 1940: "The Cut of the Sickle"

In this campaign you will lead a kampfgruppe attached to the 1st Panzer Division on its lighting advance from the Ardennes to the Channel.

First three battles are already finished …

This post is to give all of you an idea about of what you will see on this campaign… so here it goes!

1st Battle:
May 11th: “more than a night walk”

On this first battle you will conduct a night attack against at the Ardennes against elements of the 295 Inf. Reg. and the 5th DLC…cross the Semoise and advance toward Sedan.

2nd Battle:
May 12th: Road to Sedan

French 5th DLC is in full retreat! Your kampfgruppe must advance the road to Sedan to cut of 5th DLC withdraw. At the same time you must advance to Sedan, clearing French roadblocks.

3rd Battle:
May 13th: Over the Meuse
You troops supported by the elite GrossDeuthcland Reg. will try to cross the Meuse river, stablish a strong beach head on the other side, and take the Marfee Hills, where French had established their artillery. But it will not be easy: western rivera of the river is a malicious fortress made by two lines of bunkers and fortifications, hundreds of mines, kilometers of barbwire… and General La Fontaine’s 55th Infantry Division…

4th Battle:
May 14th: Engagement at Bulson

Once you have crossed the Meuse your panzers must advance toward Bulson … but this is also the objective of a strong armored counter attacker French force.

5th Battle A: May 14th Afternoon: Sichelschnitt: “Hit them hard, don't just jab them!”

You did well on previous battle? Then General Guderian will have the chance to made a tactical masterpiece: turning his panzers to the west, deeply penetrating on French lines and threaten them to attack on tree different directions… Your kampfgruppe will receive orders to cross Bar Channel and advance as fast as it is possible to La Hornge. It will be a race against the time! Dealing with fresh French forces… and the roads full atestadas of running civilians refugees!

5th Battle B:
May 16th: Covering Guderian's the Flank!

You did not do well at Bluson? Then you and GrossDeuchsland Reg. will have to cover Guderinan’s flank at Stonne which is under French attack.

Sixth Battle:
May 17th “Recon in Force”:

On a confusing situation German High Command order General Guderian to stop his advance! It seems that Von Rudest wants that Panzers wait for the infantry before continuing his advance. Nevertheless, Guderian is authorized to move part of his forces.
So your Panzer Company is rolling again! You will have to take a bridgehead over Channel Sambre-Oise where French General Georges plans to establish a new defensive line, and keep it until the rest of the division joins you… Did I mention that air recon said that large columns of Char-B tanks have been seen rolling toward Oise?

7th Battle
“Who is this brave Galoise?”

French forces have been totally disrupted! Passing over bridgeheads over Sambre-Oise, Panzer forces are running toward the Channel! Only remaining forces between Guderian’s XIX Panzer Korps and the Channel are two British second Line Divisions! … but… wait!… Are ALL French forces defected? No! Gen. De Gaulle have re join a battle group and is attacking Guderian’s flank at Crecy! Your kampfgruppe is ordered to stop DeGaulle’s attack on its tracks!

8th Battle and beyond…

Taking the fall of France as a fact British High Command has called for Operation “Dynamo”: the withdrawal of British Expeditionary Force out of the continent.
The XIX Panzer Korps will try to take French and Belgian ports on the Channel as soon as it’s possible to cut of BEF retracting line. While BEF runs toward Dunquerque, Irish and Wales Guards have established strong defensive lines to delay XIX Panzer Korps.
British forces are not the only problem ahead for you and your tanks: swamp terrains around the area are not the best for Panzer advance. Even more: Von Rundstedt does not want to risk the panzer force on such terrain. He claims that they are needed to the incoming advance to Paris… Goering, hunger of glory, is telling Hitler that his Lufftwaffe can destroy the BEF by the air… Hitler himself considers that the complete defect of the United Kingdom may produce an empty of power on British colonial areas. He and is confident about a peace agreement with the British after France will have surrender.
Will you be able to broke Irish and Wales Guards lines and reach Dunquerque cutting BEF line of withdraw before German High Command orders Guderian to stop the panzers and let the Lufftwaffe “finish the job”?

See you at Channel Aa!

Cool on the Blitzkrieg Campaign.

I am starting the converse. A branching French campaign covering the invasion of France in 1940. It will be semi-historical. Plan to have a few opportunities for DV results to give the French a chance to end the Blitz and for an early peace. Maybe 6-7 scenarios in length with branches off a few important battles..

The early German tactical decisions of how to fight against armies that out classed their tanks interests me. If you need playtesters email me. I've tested a wide range of scenarios.

Thanks

Greetings all!

Thanks on all the support posts

Some thing that would be really helpful is that some one could check my campaign TXT files for spelling and grammar mistakes that I will do by the sure.

I have been doing a lot of research to design a historical accurate campaign. All situations, locations, dates, battles and French Divisions were taken from the real historical battles... but my main goal here is to design a fun to play campaign. That’s why I’m planing to do a wide variety of scenarios: advances, assaults, night battles, river crossings, meeting engagements, road blocks battles, advances on roads crowded of running civilian that will delay your forces, etc. I don’t know you but I get tired of campaigns where all I have to do at all battles is to take a hill/crossroad/bridge. Of course you will need to do this on my France 1940 campaign... but spiced with other stuffs.

Now my friends, be patient until the 12 battles will be finished

Cheers
