Joystick suggestion?

Post by HawaiiFive-O »

I've decided I'm going to give this game a try so I have something to play in between WITP PBEM turns. [:)]

I recently purchased a new Dell, and I don't have a joystick currently.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good joystick that they know works well with Starshatter? USB is a must, I don't want to have to install a game controller card. Good compatibility with Starshatter is a must. Price not really important, anything over $200 is going to give me second thoughts though. 'Course, if it's, like, *really* cool I'd probably buy it for that price. [;)]

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

My Saitek X45 works a treat - I really must sit down for an hour and do a proper Starshatter profile for it. A HOTAS set-up is always a good bet for this sort of game (as it is flightsims), and while the Thrustmaster Cougar is (arguably) better it's also considerably more expensive.

I'd also mention that I've the X45 for approaching three years, and despite heavy use it still works perfectly. The only drawback with them was that the software/drivers on release were absolute rubbish (everybody used the Dhauzimmer 3rd party ones) but Saitek finally fixed that (with some style) last year. Just make sure you download the latest software.

I did some reading on the X45, it looks really good.

I'll take a look at the Thrustmaster Cougar, too.

Thank you.

Sounds like the X45 is the right combination of price and features for me. I considered the Cougar, but after reading some of the problems others have encountered with it, I'm not going to risk that kind of money on it.

X45 ordered placed. Once it shows up I'll be purchasing Starshatter.

Thanks again!

Hertston,

If you ever get one defined, let us know. I'll pull my X45 off the shelf (not enough space right now on my desktop).

I recommend you to play demo first and check this forum for bugs which have been missed during beta tests. I wasn't too active with latest beta versions so...

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.
