Eric, I ran both patches in the order you prescribed and everything works correctly now.
I had the 772 error on my 98SE machine and the tutorial error on my XP machine.
Thanks for the quick fix....been wargaming since I found East Front decades ago, this is the best ever, exactly what I have been waiting and wishing for.

Do we NEED to run these patches if we are not having any trouble ?

Absolutely!
PATCH PATCH PATCH!!!
These are not just for fixing people with problems. If you are not running the latest patch, please do not even post about problems as we'll end up chasing things that don't exist [:D]

RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
Downloaded both the reg & ver 1.1 patch & put on my home pc & it suprisingly fixed the 772 error so game would run there. I was only going to play game on laptop as it's more current software whereas my home pc is several years old & running Win98. I only put the game on my home pc just to be able to print manual. Thanks Matrix for doing such a good job as well as quickly getting it out to us. [&o]

RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
I downloaded the game on the evening of 7/9/2004 are the patches still needed or are they already included in the my download. Note I was able to register but the game crashed during the combat phase in the tutorial.
RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
Yes. The patches will not be put into the download version, would cause mass confusion.
RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
So...How do I get this patch?

The patches are located as attachments to the first two posts in this thread by Erik Rutins. Follow his instructions and then if your having trouble rename the sound folder to nosound.

RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
Gentlemen,
When we reach a final first patch version (rather than these rushed interim patches) then we will release it in patch form and also update the master downloaded version. Since this first version had some serious issues for a few hardware combinations, we do intend to update the master download in the future. For now, please just use the interim patches if you are experiencing a problem or if your PBEM opponent is using the patches.
Regards,
- Erik

RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
Has anyone else noticed that auto select ships for TF is broken after applying this patch? Mine always says "not enough ships of proper type" after this patch (and I get CTDs before the patch). I get this even on the first TF I try to make, and I can see more than enough of the required ships anchored, unassigned, in port. HELP!!!???!!!!!
RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
now that you mention it...it will not auto generate task forces anymore for me either...i didn't think much of it .....i'll have to double check tonight

RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
I just bought the download WitP yesterday (7-19-04) I downloaded it over night and installed it this morning before leaving for work. My excitment at finally having this game was immediately crushed by the 772 error. This evening I came home and went right on the forum and found this thread and thought my problems were over but this is not the case. I still get the 772 error when attempting to start WitP. I have reinstalled the game files and have downloaded the one attachment (1) file that is available in Erick Rutins first post, and installed it as well. However, I have been unable to locate any other patches for WitP, and as far as I can tell the version of the game that I downloaded from Matrix is 1.0. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dave

There are two patches available. In his first post the registration patch and in his second post the 1.10c patch. Install them in this order: Game -> patch 1.10c -> registration patch. Hope this helps.

RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
I downloaded the 1.10c patch and during installation got a message "A data compression error has occured (#7) File CRC mismatch - data integrity error." I figured the download must have gotten corrupted, so downloaded again, same result. reinstalled the game and tried to patch. Same error. The patch deletes the old WITP.exe but doesn't install the new one. Thus patching makes it unplayable.
Any guesses? I am running Win2K on the 1.8 gig P4. 32MB on-board video.

RE: Interim Update: Fix for Fatal Error 772 and Tutorial Crash
Hi,
I'm replacing the two separate patches with an interim 1.10d update (which is just the two combined) in case the forum corrupted the original uploads.
For those with tutorial crashes, please note that you have to restart the tutorial _after_ patching. The error gets embedded in the saved game. Starting the tutorial again as a new game will fix the problem if you've patched up.
Regards,
- Erik
