Float Planes and Recon Planes

Post by Bandkanon »

Whats the point of these guys anyway? All they do is take pictures. I know that they provide some info to me but is it really worth it to keep producing them? I notice I have squadrons of 27 recon planes!! I wish I can turn them into something more useful. I guess my question is what would be the negative consequences of decreasing my recon and float plane production for the future as the Japanese?

First of all 27 recon planes is a lot.. Split the unit and move pieces to different bases so you have more coverage. Basically they work to spot enemy units (and ships) so your other planes can pound the hell out of them. Taking pictures gives you data on a base - a rough number of how many troops are there and such, so they are useful - just don't trust them 100% as they are affected by FOW. Without Recon planes you have to have your bombers flying search missions, which means when you DO find something to sink, you have less planes available to send after them.

As Japan this is important early in the war to spot all those fleeing ships and later when the US comes aknocking..

You don't need a lot of production and are better off with 1 or 2 medium sized factories than lots of small ones. PLus check the upgrade paths and you can eliminate several types of planes from production. Only produce what you will be using in 6 months... Not what you are using now..

Yeah, thats what I figured. Its kinda scary playing as the Japanese though. Have you looked at what they are up against in the air by '43? What can a Japanese player do to prevent massacres in the air by 44 and 45?
