Back Door to P.M.?

Post by Burkowski »

Finally through the tutorial and chewing on the manual as Japs in the long scenario... thinking about strategic moves... anyone (testers, I guess at this point...) think it's possible to pincer Port Moresby via the Coral Sea AND through the Arafura Sea after taking Timor and Ceram?

The nail biting, as IJN, in UV came from the increasing strength of the Allies and fighting that clock... seems it might be possible to do it sooner and maybe beat that clock, in WitP... in looking ahead after P.I. and heeding previous advice to make the Malay Barrier airtight after conquest... seems the IJN might have enough surface punch and carrier air superiority (with a tanker train) to sufficiently suppress the LBA in Northern Oz and get at PM as early as early March 41 if all goes well... this in conjunction with a more predictable push via Truk and Rabaul... any thoughts?

Regards to all with WitP finally in hand!

Yeah the Arafura is ok..................But you have to consider Darwin. Any allied player who is half upto scratch will have this place booming with defences and aircraft as soon as possible.

My biggest problem with Darwin is getting enough aviation support there to support large air contingents. It's one thing to have two B17E units, some Hudson's and half a dozen fighter units there, another to have enough support to effectively use all of them....

Oh it is easy to get the units there fast, just let them know that the beer in Darwin is ice cold and free.[;)]

Either that or invest some PPs in Dutch Base Forces.

I hate to help you allied loosers, but... Most Japanese Base Forces start vastly undermanned in both aviation support and normal support - by allowing replacements, these 2 areas almost double for most units. Perhaps that is your problem also ? Also, by the manual the base will pick 1 Base Force and enlarge its max support allowing more aviation support from that one unit. Plus you can pull units from other bases that don't need them.

The same concept of one BF being chosen by the base for extra aviation support (if needed) was also in the UV manual. I don't however recall the concept as EVER working. If someone has a different experiance - great for him. I would though like to see it working in WitP...

Without checking I believe it is working but with a catch. If you don't have any planes at a field it doesn't work... AS soon as you place planes there the aviation support increase to someting like 30 * the airfield size. I have several BF that have 200+ aviation support, compared to others with like 30, so it does work... Just not sure how fast.

Computer player ONLY! You get nothing.

Computer PLAYER does not mean You playing and turning a zone over to the computer either [:D]
