dual monitor set up

Post by kayjay »

Im running WIN XP PRO with two monitors - idea is to have manual open in one view, game in the other - brought up manual and moved it to second(ary) monitor then loaded up WITP - since WITP is not a 'window' that I can see - ie no min/max/close buttons my mouse cursor is trapped on the primary screen with WITP and I can get over to the 2nd ary monitor to look up stuff in the manual -

Same situation here, kkelley, but I think we're going to be pretty much stuck with this one. You can run WITP in a window (I think you use -w or --window as an argument in the command to start it) but they don't support that mode, and you lose the ability to scroll the map by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen. You can still click on the little "jump map", but I didn't find that very convenient, so I went back to full screen.

I'd love to see the game have better support for running in a window better, but I expect that will be low on the priority list. And at least in my case, I had a laptop handy that I can use to view the manual. [:)]

Need to move the mouse to the edge of your screen, not the edge of the window. It's not supported for a lot of good reasons, it is there more for testing things with a debugger running, but it does work pretty well.

I have the same deal with the two monitors, only (and a big difference it is!) I have two computers, one with the game open and the other with the manual. No need for printing and it's nice to be able to jump around on the pdf.

Also, I have a nice screen-capture program, which I use to capture the characteristics of a base and a TF, so that after I do what I want to do, I can see it's effects.

You must realize that I am completely new to this game. So for now I am running the tutorial, head-to-head, and trying to figure things out.

I'm a little confused about the base support thing right now. Using the Japanese, I'm transfering a lot of troops and aircraft from Palau to Woleai, just to see how the system works, prepatory to an assault on Satawal.

Can I transfer support or is that inherent in the units and stuff?

Anyhow, I've been at this game for two days now and putting a lot of time in it. It's quite a game.

Thanks,

What are you using for screen capture (besides control+prtscr) and can you do it while WITP is running?

'Support' is inherent in the unit - if you look at a units detail it has some support troops but there are also support units as well - for US there are EAB, SeaBee and 'base' units, these are very good at getting bases up and running.

I am running scen6 HTH instead of the tutorial due to CTD. In my game I captured Wolwei (sp) got supplies, support, and several sqns of a/c there but cant seem to get the tankers (TK) to unload their oil - thus no fuel and my a/c (b-25s and P38s) wont fly.

I use "Snagit". It is one of the best screen capture programs I've ever used. If you have ICQ you can contact me at 4046944 and I'll let you know where you can find the program.

Alan - cant ICQ (for obvious reasons) but my email here is
kevin.kelley@js.pentagon.mil so if you could tell me where to find 'snag it' - dont really want to spend $35 for the HyperSnap.

Turns out you dont need fuel to operate a/c from a base - a/c expend 'supplies' as fuel - fuel is only for ships. In the case of Wolwei 2 posts back the airfield had not been repaired. NOTE to self: if you are going to invade island for airbase you dont really want to pound the airbase to dust ...

Why are we complicating this? Modern keyboards have a "Windows" key. It looks like the Windows logo. Start WitP, get into the game; hit the "Windows" key. That will minimize the game. Start the manual (I suggest creating a shortcut icon on the desktop). You could, if you choose, minimize the manual and start the tutorial also. Whatever! Then restore the minimized game. The graphics will be momentarily screwed up but will correct itself in a second or two.

At this point, you only need to hit the windows key to minimize the game, leaving you full access to the manual; repeat restore to go back to the game.

Pier,

I don't think folks want a screen-capture program to capture parts of the manual to read, per se.

That would just not be a viable option, since you'd still have to tab out; and anyhow, if you did the capture to print, why capture when you could just print straight from the manual? :)

I think the capture is for just capturing things from inside the game (and to do other things, outside of this game) and not for using the manual.
