Loading Scenarios

Can someone explain how I load a scenario from the wargamers scenario archive without replacing a scenario I already have. I keep getting messages such as "do you want to replace scenario 18 with this one" etc.

Yo, you want to extract the scenario files out to your desktop or some other folder, rename them to a higher number that isn't taken, then copy them into the scenario folder within the game. Hope this helps.

Sorry, I still am unable to get downloaded scenarios into SPWAR 8.1. If I extract to desktop, rename and try to copy into game, the scenario is not listed. If I extract direct into scenario folder new scenario replaces an existing numbered scenario. I'm at a loss.

Sounds REALLY weird. [&:] What numbers did you change to? SPWAW can handle a lot of scenarios, but not too many..

I am doing something wrong. I tried to use the first available scenario opening, 325. Could you describe the process step by step for someone who is close to computer illiterate?

Installing Scenarois 101

SP can handle up to 999 scenarios, if I remember correctly. When some one designs a scenario, they will use an open slot. Bear in mind that not everyone will have the same slots open if they have already downloaded or designed additional ones. That being said, lets get to business.

First step is to go to Sp in Windows Explorer and open up the scen folder. There will be a TON of files in it. Look at the last one you can find and that will have a number, probably around 300 or so. Note that number. You don't want to name it to anything less than that because they are probably occupied.


1. Using Windows explorer, create a folder on your computer in your temp folder on your C drive. Name it SPDownloads.

2. Find the particular scenario on the Wargamer or wherever and download it to that folder. Path will be C:/temp/SPDownloads.

3. Downloading it will place it in that folder in a "zipped" format. You will need to "extract" that folder or set of files before you can do anything with it, like renaming it.

4. Extract it to the same folder you downloaded it to. Then you can r-click on each file, the .txt, .dat and .rec IIRC, and tab over to the number portion of the file name and insert the correct number from the 1st step. Do it for all 3 files. Make sure they are ALL done.

5. R-click on the files and select the copy function. Open up the scenario folder in SP and r-click again, this time choosing paste. Do this for all 3 files.

If all went correctly you're done. Close out everything, start up SP and go to solitaire, then scenarios. It should be the last one in the list.

Select and have fun.

Does anyone know if SPManager3 or Scenario Wrangler are available for download anywhere.

Both these tools allow scenario installation with a point and click interface.

It sounds to me like either your not copying the files into the right directory which is the SCEN directory, or your not copying all the files (a total of 4 files) into the SCEN directory. The .txt file is one of the 4 files and it is needed for the scenario to show up in the scenario list within the game. And they must all have the same number.

I knew this would be somewhere. I have located SPManager3 at the bottom of Fabio Prado's The Armor Site ( http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/sp_waw.htm ).

Great site with lots of interesting Tiger scenarios and updated for Version 8.

To use this tool, unzip your new scenarios into a temporary folder and use SPManager3 to move the scenario into a vacant slot with a couple of mouse clicks. SPManager3 does all the slot/file renumbering for you.

As this tool was written before SPWaW, it does not renumber or move the ScenXXX.rec files. This is no loss as this file is the last turn replay and will be replaced after the first turn.

NOTE: SPManager does not support Campaigns (despite the caption on Fabio's site). See my post below to renumber campaigns.

I have a quesiton similar to this one. I am trying to add campaigns to my SPWAW but have had no success. I have succesfully added scenarios but not campaigns. Could someone give me some advice.
I dont mean to hijack this thread, but I didnt want to post a new thread with such a similar topic right about this one LOL.

Campaigns are located in the game \Campaigns folder and consist of the files:

UCAMPxxx.DAT (one file) and
Cxxxyzzz.www (many files)

where
xxx = Campaign number
y = File type
zzz = Battle number
www = File extension (cmt, dat, rec, txt)

1. To install a new campaign, unzip the new campaign into a temporary folder (called temp_fdr for this example).

2. Find a vacant campaign number from the game \Campaigns folder.

3. Open a DOS Shell (Command Prompt) and type: CD C:\full\path\to\temp_fdr

4. Type DIR and ensure the campaign files (as listed above) are present and remember the campaign number.

5. Type RENAME Cxxx*.* Cvvv*.*
where xxx is the campaign number from step 4 and vvv is the vacant slot from step 2 (ensure you use three digits).

6. Type RENAME UCAMPxxx.dat UCAMPvvv.dat
where xxx and vvv are the campaign numbers from step 5.

7. Copy the Cvvvyzzz.www and UCAMPvvv.dat files to the game /Campaigns folder.
where vvv is the campaign number from step 5.

8. Close DOS Shell by typing EXIT

The campaign will now be available for play.
