Defensive fire against fighters

Post by Mr.Frag »

[:(]

When I have 2 DDs and 2 FFs in close proximity to each other and a wave of fighters come in, it would be really nice if at least 1 of them got shot down. As it sits now, that is rather RARE.

Anyone have any suggestions about what can be done to improve these results?

Fighters are already pounded excessively in spaceborne and ground assault missions. Increasing accuracy of flak and missiles would make fighters obsolete...those DDs and FFs can already shoot you up most of the time before you get in range. One problem is that AI seems to concentrate on the lead (or closest, at least) fighter instead of spreading the luv. As the lead fighter is usually the player, you find yourself getting missile warnings every two seconds and eventually get killed (hopefully while the rest of the group gets to land a few hits on the capital ship in question).

I don't have a problem taking out fighters unless they are moving perpendicular to me, or at close range which me facing them straight on (part of the problem with torpedoes, damn guns don't track properly)

Units always target the flight leader first, then work their way down the chain. The humongous problem with this is that often as not, the flight leader will be 10-20 KM behind the the 4th member of the flight. Thus 75% of the squadron gets its missiles off without hinderance.

The best way around it is to command a carrier and kick their butts ;)

Failing that, keep your frigates between you and the enemy carrier/fighters. If the frigates can start wasting fighters before they get in range of your DDs or CAs, then its perfect. It will only be a problem if the fighters are targeted on the frigate. Painful, but they are of vastly limited effectiveness against enemy capital ships regardless. If need be, you can order the frigates to quantum out the instant you see the first enemy missile leap off its rails.
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.

Frig's go down real quick when the fighters decide they are the target [:D]
