Rear-facing launch bays?

Post by CmdrRanger »

Is it possible to make a flight deck that launches fighters out of the rear of your capital ship? I've tried several things, but all of my fighters seem to launch facing in the direction of the lauching ship, and this unfortunately throws them into a wall. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Flightdecks have to be pointed in the direction they're suppose to launch towards or recieve landing craft from using the azimuth and elevation properties like weapons.

Ah... That did it. Thanks!
Is there any more information on configuring Flight Decks? The information on starshatter.com's SDK section is pretty skimpy. Specifically, what do Approach and Spot do? I assume that spot on a recovery deck is where the ship has to actually go to in order to be considered 'landed', and I figure that spot on launch decks is supposed to be where the ships being launched are initially spawned, then they are moved to the decks' start coordinates, right? If this is true, does the number of your spot coordinates have to at least match the max_ships number?
And what about Approach? I originally thought they were supposed to be a string of coordinates that would line up an inbound ship up with the flight deck, but looking at the approach coordinates in the carrier.def sample makes me think this isn't the case since they don't seem to actually get any closer to the flight deck. Can anyone help me wrap my head around this?

Start and end for retrieval determine where the beginning and end of the flight tunnel that appears while landing, AI craft follow this path too while on final approach. Approach is a flight path around the carrier that takes them to the start point. Craft should fly to the closest approach point and follow the path to the end where they hold until they have clearance.

"Spots" are where fighters "appear". When its their turn to launch, they move to the "Start", and then launch towards the "End". For instance, the launch decks on the Orion-class CVs have 3 slots. Two are for fighters, and one is for LCAs. There are two launch decks.

Approach is traffic control. When a fighter is approaching a carrier to land, it will find the closest Approach point, and then proceed in inverse sequence to the first approach slot listed, then it will move to the Start and proceed to the End. You only really need 4 approach points, placed in a diamond pattern, so long as they are spaced far enough away from the ship..
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.
