It's all my fault-No conspiracy

Post by Grenadier »

I never realized what it would take to put together a campaign of 250 odd scenarios, plus 50 maps, 400+ photos, 85 wav files, 400 documents...

Remember in the Bond film "From Russia With Love" when Tatiana asked Bond if he will make love to her all the time once they reach London?

"Day and night" was his reply. That is a good way to say what I have been doing...(no, not making love) But is sure has been a labor of love
I didn't realize whan I said yes to this I would be incommunicado for nearly a year. I wish I was retired like Wild Bill. Or won the lottery. If I didn't have to deal with a DAY job, not to mention a wife and kids, this would have been done much sooner. Lucky Bill, he visits the kids and Grandkids and then goes home to work on another MC, while I have to deal with "Are you on the computer again? I have to get my (fill in the blank) homework, bills, e-mail"

Those of us who were involved with the "Making of Lost Victories" know what a huge project it was. I don't envy Brent the incredibly difficult task of fitting all the pieces together into a completed MC, but I know there's no one who could do it better. He deserves recognition for service far above and beyond the call of duty, and we all owe him a massive debt of gratitude for his efforts. I've had the privilege of being part of all three MC's, and I can tell you his part of it is the hardest, most frustrating, and most time-consuming task in building an MC. He's a true champion, and deserves to hear it from us. Thanks, Brent, for your dedication. We'll be ready when it is.

Brent,

Buddy, I am feeling for you - seriously. You email made me feel stressed out.

Look, paying $25 does not give me the right to demand people torch their lives for me. Neither do any of us. (Operation Torch happened many years ago; no need to made a personal re-do).

It's ready when it's ready. Step back, take a breather, and dive in when you are ready again. Sometimes a little distance nets a new perspective and desirious attitude.

I'd like to add that though I haven't seen the MCs yet(they're in the mail), for everything with this game I've already experienced over the years, thank you one and all. And, if there's some small part I can play in the future to help carry the torch, drop me a line. I'm recently single, so noone bugs me about what I do with my time. I can finally start working on the Canadian campaign I've always wanted to do. Thank you Matrix team and family.

I think you deserve a medal for taking it on. But it will be worth it in the end.

Let me attest to what Brent has said. I've completed two Mega Campaigns now, The Desert Fox - 41, and OPeration Watchtower - 42.

There were a total of 230 scenarios in both, over 400 articles and pictures, 70+ sound files, maps, awards, testing, retesting, testing again.

The biggest burden of all is putting all this together. You'll never know until you have been there and done that.

I want to thank my team captains on the two projects. They are Rick Cloutier, Louie Marsh (Rommel), Steve Avery and Bruce Hodgman (Watchtower).

These guys put in untold hours and a lot of hard work. Then there were the designers, nearly 20 of them altogether. Also we had the testers, over 40 of them in total.

Now managing those kinds of material and that many people...well, perhaps you can imagine.

I put in 20 hours a day for weeks on MCNA and also on MC-W. Not complaining here, just trying to make folks aware of the thousands, not hundreds of man hours that go into the production of a Mega Campaign.

In final testing, we've found that our last campaign, Operation Watchtower, has worked flawlessly. No crashes, no bizarre events, no extended turns, no "yugo" syndrome.

Like a well oiled, well tuned machine Operation Watchtower just slides right along. We found it in our extensive testing to be bug free. That was a wonder to behold.

It took a lot of work and a lot of e-mail to get us there. It took extra work from Michael Wood, the team captains and the final testers to check all of this out.

But it works! It works well. And I assure you, after having devoted this much of my life to one project, no one could be more pleased than I am.

Thanks to all the guys on the MC-Watchtower team who made it happen. You all did real good!

Brent, a craftsman need never apologize for wanting to make sure their creations are well finished before sending them out to the public! Speaking for myself, I preordered 'Lost Victories' knowing that the time of its release would be predicated upon when its complex system of files was ready. I would no more want to put pressure on you to release it before it's done than I would to put pressure on a surgeon to finish an opperation before it was complete.

MCNA is much more exciting and fun than I had hoped it would be. The supporting documentation, maps, and videos add a depth to it that just make it more interesting! Based on the excellent MCNA, I'm sure that 'Lost Victories' will be more than worth the wait. To coin a phrase from Frank Sinatra's song, keep doing that voodoo that you do so well!

I have the utmost respect for all the folks who put the MCs together! Whatever Matrix pays you for doing the fine job you do, it ain't enough!

Take your time, make sure you are satisfied with 'Lost Victories' before shipping it, and I'll be here when it arrives.

Many thanks!

Brent: Not to worry old friend...Your efforts will be appreciated by one and all. The truth is this is anit no foot race. Your efforts to provide a top notch gaming experience will take exactly as long as it takes. I preordered mine a long time back. While I look forward to the day I play MCLV I am in no rush to see it pushed out the door. So you just hang in there, pat the wife, kiss the dog, kick the kids....well something like that anyway...LOL
