Continuous Bombardment TFs possible?

Post by Aelbric »

Or am I doing something wrong? When I assign a bombard TF it bombards the first turn of arrival and then auto switches to Surface Combat. Tried to set it on patrol and auto replenisgsh with a replenish TF in hex with no luck. Is there a way to make it Bombard until it's out of ammo then RTB?

set the TF to "Do not retire", it will at least stay in the hex (unless it runs out of ammo) but you will have to reset it to bombardment mission each turn

Are you sure? After turn one as the Japanese/historic/surprise the bombardment mission TF's still say bombardment and they don't have any DH either (no plot shows up anyway) and they're on 'no retreat' or whatever that option is.

pretty sure.....but your right about Turn 1. When i was playtesting the Marianas scenerio i kept having to reset the BB TF to "bombardment" even when set to DO NOT RETIRE.

I concur. Why would the TF keep flipping back from Bombard though? As long as it has ammo, it should keep making potholes right?

i believe the idea behind it is that "surface combat" is the default setting for a warship TF (excluding air combat TF's). Historically, most "bombardment missions" in the classic sense were one-off jobs....at least until the latewar US offensives where bombardment/support TF's became integrated in an overall amphibious operation.

Kind of moot though, as whether set to bombardment or SC...such a TF will still fight it's opposites if the TF enters the hex

When ammo gets so low, ships will no longer bombard no matter the orders. I think this is to simulate always keeping some shells left over in case of surface combat.

IMHO I would love to see a continous bombardment until I give the order to switch to Surface Combat...[8D]

Has someone put this in the wish list? It would be a great request.
