Escort TF's

Post by jhdeerslayer »

How are people using them since you have a choice to add escort type ships directly to a Transport TF or you can have an Escort TF follow it? Seems the Escort TF adds flexibility and easier port/ship management.

I carefully avoided using the term Escort Service.[:D]

i guess AA combat still goes taskforce by taskforce. In enemy waters, the best might be to place a few strong AA units into the transport force in addition to ASW ships. The escort TF deals with enemy surface attacks. An ASW TF might help in sub infested waters.

Guess I assumed that Escort TF protects the TF it follows from all threats i.e. air, sea, and subs.

I thought Escort TFs were to assign ships to escort badly damaged ship home - otherwise it will split apart from the TF every turn. Thats what I've been using Escort for - use DDs to escort home badly damaged ships.

Ah... I saw that in a thread somewhere. I wonder if as effective escorting a transprot TF with a following Escort TF or better to integrate into the Transport TF itself as done in UV.

I am of same belief as Xargun.

If that is indeed the case, then I don't believe that an Escort TF will provide ANY benefit to a TF it may be following....

Hello...

You are correct, Xargun. This type of task force will avoid combat, so it cannot protect any other task forces from anything.

Bye...

Err well what about protecting the damaged ship(s) it's supposed to be escorting?
