how far?
How far have you guys gotten in the grand campaign?
Im on jan,28 1942 as the allies.
Everything is going pretty good and havent had any major losses since dec 7.
I have reinforced wake and johnston islands and am fixing to take marcus island and another island (cant remember the name) farther south.
The war in china is going as expected and I am starting to slow then down a bit.The phillipines will fall.I dont know how long they will hold out and am thinking of a mid feb surrender in manilla of allied forces[:(]
I have good supply lines going and feel confident the allies can pull it off.....man...I have a long way to go.....

Feb 1 1941, doing 1 day turns as the Allies. The PI will go by Feb 1 I think and the Dutch Islands are slowly falling as we pull out the Dutch Air and Ground support units.
Sinapore fell on 1/1941[:(] but I did get the 2 high quality Australian Inf. Brigades out intact, they`ll be needed up in India.
The US Asiatic Fleet , led by Houston and Bosie covered itself in Glory in a night surface action near Davo, when it got into a large Transport Fleet, sinking or badly damaging 8 AP`s and escorts in a night and then next day action for only minor damage on own ships[:D]
The PI AS Aux. ships are now in Darwin and supporting the subs from there.
There are reports of Japanese CV`s coming South East toward Bativa, if so Halsey may raid the Marshal Islands or Truk.

Late july 42 as the allies.
I have not yet lost any CVs and the Japanese have lost two CVLs, so I'm doing OK overall. Have the 2nd marines dug in at Guadalcanal. (Were they available this early in the war?)
Keep in mind to change you TBFs range from 2 to 5. They keep the TBDs max range during the upgrade!

RE: how far?
Black Cat, apparently the scenario you're playing has US/Jap relations breaking down nearly an entire year earlier! Did the Japs still do the surprise attack on PH thingie back in '40? [;)] [:D]
RE: how far?
Dec 15th just finnished......1 day turns pbem, this is our 2nd or 3rd game had afew practice runs.
Rather abit of a bloody disaster at the moment.........Enterprise and Lexinton are on the bottom along with several CA's........went to Wake sank Jap CL's and 2 DD's but ran into the Jap 6 pack. Bufalo's on the Lex didn't fair well vs Zero's.

RE: how far?
Early Feb. '42. Singapore and Rangoon gone, but Japs making slow progress in DI. They seem bogged down at Palembang. Bataan still holding out and causing heavy enemy losses when Japs make Deliberate Attacks. Should hold out at least a couple more weeks. Allied SS have been sinking Jap APs and AKs steadily, though targets are getting fewer. Jap SS abysmal (using Historical Doctrine). One AP sunk by them. Five Jap SS attacked by Allied ASW 5 probably sunk (Allied ASW definitely seems a bit too strong). But Jap Bettys out of Marianas are causing my convoys to S Pacific and Australia a few problems- I'll have to beef up the escorts to increase AA. Japs also making slow progress in New Britain. Unfortunately Australian response slow, though Port Morseby should now bee well enough garrisoned to withstand attack. Concentrating on pulling everything useful I can out of DI. Sending CV task force to hit Rabaul, as Jap KB is (hopefully) off Phillippines. They seem to have given up on Wake, which I should be able to develop into a useful forward base for when the tide turns.
Naval losses reasonably light (two BBs, three CLs and some DDs and lighter craft, and about 40 Merchants -mainly before I realised they scuttled when a base fell and I needed to get them away in time[:(]
So far so good (reasonably). After a rapid Jap advance during December/early Jan, they seem to be slowing down.

Hehe, December 17, 1941. I'm taking my time playing against the Japanese AI. I've held Wake so far, moving to reinforce it now; the Phillipines are falling faster than I expected; the IJA is working its way methodically down Malaya; one base in Burma has fallen; and the Japanese just landed on the north shore of Borneo. Quite an eventful ten days!

RE: how far?
Been through the first 3-4 weeks several times just to get the handle on things.
Currently in early Jan, 1942. Pearl went badly for the IJN, and I only lost a DD, a DM, and an AK. The Nevada didn't have a scratch, and the rest are all under 40 SysDmg... most in the 20s. The Japs went through the PI like a hot knife through warm butter. I'm down to just Bataan, Clark and Manila, and troops just marched into Clark last turn. Malaya is a similar situation, and I'm down to just Singapore. I've evacuated 1 good Aussie group and am using them to reinforce Rangoon. I also got out the 4th Marines, the CD Battalion, both USA tank groups as well as the artillery from the PI. I'm sending them towards Port Moresby.
Love this game!

This actually fairly accurately describes my game. I've been playing mostly at a rate of 1 day per day (except this weekend), full human control of everything I can control, so it takes a while.
To 'simulate' allied confusion at the start of the war, I started playing after only a brief run through the tutoral. (I had no prior experience with UV, but I played the boxed set of War in the Pacific several years ago in college.) As a result, I made a lot of mistakes that I am going to have to make up for later in the game.
I have a couple of divisions in the Philippines that are nearly cut off, have not saved nearly as much resources and oil as I could have, messed up the job of sending supply from the West Coast for a couple of turns, and I do not think I have yet got the hang of air power -- it is not doing as well as I think it should. The interesting thing is to see if I can recover from these setbacks.
RE: how far?
May 24th 1942 as Allies:
1. I pulled everything bar two indian brigades out of Singapore - they're all now in India (went via Palembeng, Tjilitap and Derby).
2. I deliberately left all the rest of Abda under computer control...the CP didn't do very well, but Bataan is still holding out...
3. Because of the brain-dead routing algorithm for transports, I've chosen Suva as the southern terminus of my SF-Pearl-Oceania logistics route.
4. I lost Wake, but took it back on 15th March.
5. I took an undefended Marcus Island on 10th May - Eniwetok is the next operation.
6. Burma sucks - I tried to dig in too early, and have lost all but Imphal and Kohima. However, I have all the Malayan troops, just trying to figure out a way back in.
I've sunk 152 Japanese ships for the loss of 67 Allied.
Air losses are
537/296
643/2
61/248
257/746
for air-to-air, on field, flak and operational losses.
Japanese score 11055 vs Allied 6000.
Oh, and one nice thing, after playing #19 in UV for months, I've been pleasantly surprised by the way my chaps in Port Moresby have thrashed the Japanese airforce...

Dec 16 1941
Lost 1 BB sunk, 7 crippled at PH.
PI are in danger of being over run in a month or two
Lost 4 DDs in a night action in Leyte Gulf.
Repulse and POW out of commission in Singapore, preparing to make a run for Ceylon.
My success: Wake was held, and the Lady Lex's CAG sank 3 CLs, 1 DD, and 2 AP in the process. In the PI, a Dutch fleet of 3 CLs and 6 DDs sank several transports, and at Rabaul and Aussie fleet of 3 DDs, 2 CLs and a CA sank 2 loaded APs, killing 1,101 Japanese troops.
Im breaking even so far.

I got to June 1942 but that was just doing my ASW testing so I wasnt actualy 'playing'.
I have 3 months to go on the Guadalcanal campaign and once I complete that I will have played all of the partial map scenarios.

RE: how far?
Captskillet...I hit Kwajalein with a CV task force at about the time you are planning to. Not a whole lot there when I visited. Sank a DD , and knocked another around, but that was about all. Didn't put the pesky Bettys out of action for long. Guess I'll have to set up a detour route for my supplies via Suva as well... Maybe the next patch can do something about those convoy routings?

RE: how far?
7 Jan 41, playing as allies
The Malayinan penisula is now part ot the greater asian prosperity sphere [:@], Enemy troops are on the outskirts of Singapore. Rangoon is holding thanks to early reinforcements of Indian armored units + artillery.
Cavite/Clark/Corigidoor still in US hands, all aircraft so far evacuated except for remnants of P-35/P-26/P40B units, that by the way are doing a nice job with 100lb bombs harrassing Jap supply/landing convoys.
Building up Nomeau for hopefully an offensive in Feb game time frame. 27 Allied Ships sunk, mostly AP/AKs but, also the Renown, and 2CLs. Japs have lost 57 ships...had to peak as the Jap player, almost all APs, AKs and small numbers of auxiliaries.
So far so good, great fun.

1/7/42 vs AI
No BBs sunk at PH but all were system damaged from 20-75%
Wake withstood the initial attack. There are 2000 enemy troops there that must be getting hungry since their transports ran away a month ago. I've supplied but not reinforced there.
Rangoon just fell.
Singapore is all that's left in Malaysia
3 bases left in the PI.
A CVL came down and raided south of PM a few days ago. Sunk some transports that had just emptied at PM.
The main fleet was seen briefly near the PI 2 weeks ago and has since disappeared.

Feb 4, 1945 and I'm marshalling my forces for the invasion of Iwo Jima. Wait a minute you said the grand campaign didn't you. I'm playing Scenario #10 and once Iwo falls I will abandon this game and start a modified Scenario #14 game. I wont start a grand campaign until after the next patch comes out and some of the OOB errors have been fixed. How many people have started the grand campaign and restarted after they learned someting new about game mechanics?
