Kill his carriers...
if he loose lex and enterprise... you can withdraw your damaged carriers for a long time (to repair)... your airplane have the RANGE advantage... use it [:)]
kill his carriers and he is in trouble... you gain 3 or 4 months more to establish your outer defend parameter.... and to hold you down in the autum of 42 will cost him tripple [:D]

First of all I do not have that much of a range advantage - only 1 hex... I have range 5 and his SBDs are range 4 so not much...
Well I have made my decision on what to do and am sending the turn to Rob even as I type this. Let me tell you it was a hard choice, but one I feel is better for me in the long haul... I don't want to give anything away until he does his turn so I'll try not to influence his orders.... I know what I want him to do... and what I hope he does... but will he ? Besides he has several other ops in the air - same as me and this battle will be decided on this turn I feel - either one or both of us will flee the scene.
Either way, operation Polar Glory was a success - Wake is now mine and will take a lot of US forces to take it away from me - I have a full division landing on it, with CD guns, AA and Air HQs enroute. It will be a little fortress from which to snipe at all US northern pacific movements.
Another problem we are both facing is if we retreat we have about an equal trip back home through enemy sub infested waters. I count roughly 10 allied subs between Wake and Japan... and I have about the same between Wake and PH, so its hard to say. We may both end up retreating and a sub getting the killing blow on some CVs - would rather lose them to his SBDs than to his subs.... But those are the chances you take.
I was looking over my ship losses and other than losing a ton of subs and 2 CLs I think I'm doing quite well at the moment... Here are the total ship losses:
Allies: lost 86 ships for 827 points
39 AK, 1 AS, 1 AO, 1 AV, 3 AP, 1 AVD, 1 BB, 1 CL, 10 DD, 3 DM, 3 DMS, 1 ML, 1 MSW, 4 PG, 6 PT, 5 SS and 3 TK
IJN: lost 31 ships for 233 points
2 AK, 8 AP, 2 CL, 2 DD, 2 PC, 2 MSW, 1 PG and 12 SS
I think I have the advantage right now - I control Wake and its size 3 airfield, which means I can bring LBA into the area - which have a longer range than both our CV aircraft and are much less important. But I shall say no more... Rob can do his turn and we shall see how it turns out...

JAP ONSLAUGHT CONTINUES!
Sources are reporting that a major sea battle has occured off of Wake Island. The island garrison, the subject of a major battle some 3 weeks ago, has been lost to Japanese forces. CINCPAC has very little to say about the battle other then "the enemy has been engaged." Returning pilots from B-17s stationed at Midway island reported seeing at least two enemy carriers burning and 3 battleships struggling with fires. American losses appear to be one aircraft carrier. It is unknown how this will affect the balance of power in the Central Pacific with the Japanese contining to hold a 3 to 1 superiority in carriers to the Allies.
COMMONWEALTH TROOPS DRIVE JAPS BACK!
Fierce fighting has begun in Moulon where Indian divisions continue thier offensive. After freeing both the rail and road areas British generals have begun a general offensive in attempt to drive the Japanese from the area entirely. Rumor has it that 3 divisions of Chinese troops may also be taking part in the battle. Allied fighters continue to duel enemy bombers for the skies above Rangoon as allied navies continue to supply the area with troops and supplies for the ongoing offensive.

hmmm sounds like you have a combination of the coral sea and midway battles reversed. unlike the coral sea he did not prevent your taking of your objective (port moresby a la wake island) but the CV battles were sort of even. Although like you said it looks like the Lex was damaged heavily and lost her airgroup on Wake. Thus one less CV airgroup facing you and thus time to finish the rest off. When else will you get odds like this again?!?! Unlike midway you actually captured your objective (midway a la wake island) and can now employ your land based air to assist you in the battle. at midway it was the americans that had this advantage. i hope you decided to go after him! [:D]
you probably need to keep your CV's around to protect your incoming transports anyway.
who knows if you leave he might double back and bash them.
January 1st, 1942
Well its the first day of the new year and the IJN is indeed celebrating. Operation Polar glory was a complete success not only bagging Wake Island, but large numbers of American POWs and aircraft as well. The naval / air battle off the coast seems to be over now, with the IJN CVs patrolling the coast looking for USN targets.
It looks like I hit the Lady Lex as hard as I thought, as Rob abandoned her and fled the scene - definately saving the Enterprise and the rest of the TF. In the early hours my IJN pilots located the burning Lady Lex a mere 100 miles from where she was last seen and with multiple bomb and torp hits sent her beneath the waves. Meanwhile the fires on the IJN battleships have been put out (they were very little ones) and the flooding and fires on two IJN CVs seem to be under control at this stage. As the CVs pull back for some rest, LBA is arriving in large numbers - including some damn recon planes so maybe I can spot something this time...
My bombers in Burma / Malaya continue to send British merchies to the ocean floor tagging several AKs and the AP Van Dieman which sunk carrying members of he Aussie 27th Brigade - thats a real shame...
Rob managed to land some troops in the Kuril Islands via sub transport - why there I have no idea, but they won't last long - although it will be a few days to find some troops to root them out of there.
My parachute attack in Bataan has failed [:@] For the past several days I have been reconning Bataan and all reports showed no one home, so I transported half of the 1st Parachute Regiment into the base only to watch Rob's AA down several transports and his units there wiped out my Regiment completely - it will be a month or more before I can do anything with that unit. My intel and recon has not be very accurate at all so far this game... Even last turn after suffering air attacks from his CVs, my intel identified them as all CAs - I think I need to kill some intel people and restaff.... If only that was possible.
The naval war seems to be going my way if only I can get some success out of my stalled land campaigns in PI, Malaya and China. But I am working on them all...

That is definately classified information. I will reveal that the BBs that took the 1000 lbers suffered no more than like 7 or 8 sys damage with no flooding and small fires... The CVs, having a lot less armor, took considerable more damage and were burning and had flooding - thankfully the flooding is stopped and the fires SEEM under control right now... If I send the 2 CVs that were damaged into the shop it will be months before they are good as new - but right now I'm toying with the idea of putting into port to get the fires out and replace lost aircraft and staying at sea with damaged CVs to press my advantage... But I need to find a worthy target to do such a move - if I could find the Enterprise I would most likely go after her, but she's gone... Even my Mavis' can't find her...

As long as his carriers swim and are able to fight, you need to be carefully.
i understood your situation in this phase in a way that you get the chance to kill 2 more cvs... so he has to bring in too early his ohter carriers and your undamaged cvs can kill his or - if you work even better and eat his other cvs too, you can improve your india-situation a little by killing british ships...
So, to say it short, my plan is (and i would try to do if i were in your situation) to kill the last carriers or force him to use em against yours, the damaged one will be repaired and he is forced to use his and pay for it (maybe you get some happy hits by betties ?)
So for the allied side, he can do nothing or has to pay in blood.
As the allied side, i would push you in india and keep passivly in the pacific... just some hit and runs and let the subs do the rest.... in the moment the japanese strech to far, strike back

Don't tickle yourself with some moralist crap thinking we have some sort of obligation to help these people. We're there for our self-interest, and anything we do to be 'nice' should be considered a courtesy dweebespit

MARINES GO ON OFFENSIVE
(AP Oahu) CINCPAC has announced that Marine Raiders led by Major Terry Irvine have seized Japanese territory in their home islands. The marines, part of an unnamed division, landed at Kunashiri Jima yesterday morning, planted the flag and destroyed a small Japanese outpost. Admiral Nimitz was quoted as saying, our enemy needs to understand that we can attack him at will anywhere and at anytime. When pressed about the possibilties of future attacks Nimitz smiled and said, "No Comment."

The battle of Moulmen enters its third day our brave Commonwealth soldiers continue to push the Japanese south. A force made up of Indian, British, Australian and Chinese forces struck hard along a road north of the town. The commanding British general reports that "Our boys are well ahead of our timetable and intend to push the invader back into Malaya." Sources say this could be the start of a general offensive to squeeze enemy forces between Rangoon and the fortress of Singapore.

Getting lucky I think... I have a LOT of aircraft on ASW search and they are spotting them for my ASW TFs to hunt and kill.. I have like 70+ ships engaged in ASW right now in several large TF of 10+ ships...
I've damaged several other subs, but they got away - perhaps they will sink before making safe port - I hope so, I know I've lost 3-4 subs sinking on the way home...

CinPac made a not-so daring sneak attack on a defenseless Kuril island and landed around 80 marines. The sub that landed them has been pounded by a large ASW TF and will probably not make it home due to damage incurred. Despite finding some nice supplies on the island the Marines are cut off and have no where to go.. I think I'll use my Home Defense air units to pound the hell out of them for some easy target practice [:'(] Why drop dummy bombs when you can drop real ones on the enemy ?
I think the Brits are drunk. There attacks on Moulmein have been repulsed by a small holding unit. The allies are attacking with 4-6 units and cannot muster enough strength to achieve even 1:1 odds - and thats with NO fort at Moulmein - what will they do when the Imperial Guards arrive in town and knock them the hell back to Rangoon ? The Guards Division is moving right along the road and should arrive in a day or two at most - then the base will be secure.. [BTW: That Guards division is HUGE]
I initiated several more ops the past turn, of which one has finish in capturing Baker Island. No I am in air range of several key South Pacific Islands in the supply chain to OZ.
The buildup at Wake continues despire the heavy allied sub activity. An entire division is on Wake, along with some auxillary units and they are digging in - it will take roughly 3-4 Marine Divisions to capture Wake back. And it will be very bloody and costly for the Allies.
The last 2 turns have been slow with only 3 Allied ships being sunk: AP Crescent City carrying members of the 2nd USMC Div - off the cost of San Fran, CL Dragon and SS KVIII - which tried to torp one of my CS, but they failed to detonate... good thing too.. IJN has suffered 3 lost ships - all from previous damage: 1 AK, 1 AP and 1 SS who almost made it back to a port [:@]
The fighting in china is heating up and Rob had better not have pulled too many Chinese units out of china to help the Brits, as I am pushing hard along the entire Chinese front.. Wuchow has fallen giving over more resources to fuel the Japanese economy (and a whopping 3 HI). The city to the NE of Wuchow should fall this turn (forget its name). I plan on having my Chinese theater all done by end of Jan, so my troops are in for a hard month.
