Japanese Air Replacements/Upgrades

Just a small tip for playing Japan in the Grand Campaign. Do not turn auto-replacements or auto-upgrades on. You will quickly be inundated with loads of very low experience rookie pilots (25-30). See the manual for an explanation of why.

You have to keep an eye on the pilot replacement pool. For fighting groups only accept replacements or upgrades when you know that you have enough trained pilots for the number of planes you will receive.

My plan for the IJN is to keep the carrier airgroups up to scratch, let other front-line groups run down and create some sort of flying school somewhere in the rear areas for the rookies. For the IJA I will adopt something similar but rather than favouring the non-existent carrier airgroups I will try and choose the most elite squadrons. There are some very good army outfits at the start of the game.
