Campaign save?

Post by marksolino »

Why won't my campaign save after each mission? I'm playing Operation Live Fire (training) and I passed the first mission (which lists as Passed in the mission list). I've since completed missions 2 and 3 (the planetside/atmospheric flight training missions) and every time I exit out to main menu after beating them, upon returning they do no list as passed. I've tried manually saving the campaign but the SAVE button at the bottom of the screen is greyed out (i.e. cannot be activated). I looked in the manual, and it says the game should autosave at the beginning and end of each mission OR that you can manually save the campaign. The logbook is tracking my player stats and I have acheived Ensign rank, but for some reason my training campaign isn't saving. I have tried it multiple times. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or an oversight, but either way it still has a very simple workaround:

Just knock out all the training missions at once. This will set a flag in your profile to "1", and next time you go into the training campaign all missions will show as passed.

The training campaign Operation Live Fire isn't really "saveable" like the other four campaigns are; but the game should automatically remember which of the training missions you have completed.

Puzzling. I've never heard of anyone else experiencing this particular issue. My guess is that you are doing something different (not necessarily wrong, just different) than everyone else and that is exposing this bug. Are you going into the player logbook after completing the training missions? There could be a bug where the game is reading your old, untrained stats from the player.cfg file before it has a chance to record your new, trained stats to disk.

In any case, there is a simple work-around. Just open the file "player.cfg" with notepad. Find your character in the file - should be easy if you have only created one player record - and look for the line that says "trained: 1". That indicates that you have passed the first training mission, but none of the others. To give yourself credit for all of the training missions, change the line to read "trained: 255".

Sorry for the trouble. I will experiment with it and try to reproduce it here.

Good luck with the rest of the game!

Milo,

I experienced the same phenomenon in the 3.9 demo, although I'm sure I went into my logbook after accomplishing the missions to see how I was doing (we vain pilots have to always check our flight hours!).

I just copied my 3.9 pilot to my 4.0.0 copy, so I haven't gone through the training campaign with the release.

Well, tried it out both ways. Knocked out all the training missions at once; the game gave me a congratulations message that I had passed training. When I went back in, interestingly enough, it saved that I had passed the first 4 training missions but not Carrier Operations. So I did it your way, Milo, by changing the trained in player.cfg to 255, and now it has me having passed all five missions.

Again, thanks guys for your great support of your product. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

I also have a question about campaign saves. I have noticed that when one loads a previously saved game, the mission roster is "regenerated".

Is this a bug or a feature? I believe it is a feature for avoiding certain "gamey" tactics, but one never knows.

Dynamically generated missions aren't stored in the save, so a new set has to be generated when you load one.
