Strategy Guide?

Post by Keplerus »

Are there any plans to produce an official strategy guide for WITP? (Or an unofficial one for that matter?)

You are reading the strategy guide. Strategy guides, for the most part, are for games that are pretty much scripted. WitP is in no way scripted. Strategy guides say to go here and get this....not possible with this game. the game changes in reaction to what you do. So, a strategy guide wouldn't really be feasible.
There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.

Your best bet for now is the war room subforum. I imagine at some point some grognards might put together an unofficial primer on general strategy and tactics on the web somewhere.

In the WITP Fansite - there is already an unofficial FAQ/Strategy guide - but it is still a very rough draft ...

So I am looking for some more tips from all the grogs on this forum [;)]

Plenty of hardcore wargames have strategy guides - don't Matrix produce one for their own Market-Garden game? I don't see any reason why WITP is so different.

The sales of this game should be relatively miniscule and the typical player is quite sophisticated. The game mechanics are reasonably learnable from the manual despite some unclear stuff and almost omissions. For the "strategy" part of the strategy guide, there are TONs of better and worse books about any facet of WW2 that will work as a good basis of how to proceed in a strategic sense.

It would be nice to think that, but however detailed it may be, WITP remains a game, and it has 'gamey' aspects to its strategy that history is not going to help with much.

It's precisely the unclear stuff and almost omissions that are the problem!
