It should convert but any problems that have happened prior to you installing the patch will still be there.

ie: if you lost a unit due to a bug 2 weeks ago, the unit is not going to magically reappear.

You will have to make that evaluation yourself and determine based on the list of fixes and new features whether there are things that you want to pack it in over or not and restart your existing games.

Based on the amount of time that will be invested in a full campaign, I'd probably go down the restart path myself and consider the previous game to be a training game, but thats between the two players playing the game to decide for themselves. Think carefully about it. Most games are probably in the Dec 41/Jan 42 timeframe so 60 odd turns out of 1000+ is really not that big a deal.
