Do I need the interim update for AA upgrades?

Post by Grotius »

The game is currently running fine for me, but I hear that the interim update adds a feature relating to upgrading AA on ships. That's the only reason I'd consider getting the interim update right now. Should I?

To complicate things further, I worked around the tutorial crash by replacing wpc001.dat with a copy of wpc006.dat. Do I still need to apply the interim update? If I do so, will that require me to start my current campaign game against the AI? Also, do I need to "un-replace" my wpc001.dat file before applying the interim update?

No, but it does add a bunch of other stuff to make your life easier.

You will need the full patch coming out in a while.

As long as you are just playing the AI and not any other player, you are pretty much free to stay at whatever level you happen to like.

Thanks for your reply. So do either of the two interim patches require me to restart? I'm up to mid-February 1942 now, and I kinda want to see the tide turn. :)

No, but the patch is really looking to be restart level now ...

There will be replacement scenario files to cure a couple of problems that you can't get around any other way.

The list of things fixed right now is pretty long and still growing.

So... are you saying we are gonna have to restart our whole game? FOr a game this size, that is really stupid. I mean, really stupid.

I can understand your dismay, I too have a solo AI game going that is taking forever...but as you said, it's "a game this size" and that means it's complex and the code probably would give most people nightmares. I'll happily patch it if and when it's clear it will be a benefit. Until then, I'll just keep playing my game...[:D]

Perhaps 2by3 should have simply cancelled the entire project knowing that they really needed a team of about 1000 people to be able to test enough to catch absolutely everything. [8|]

Lol, I agree, a restart is better than no game at all, but after many "all nighters", its really frustrating to think it was "all for not". Oh well.... hopefully they get the patch out soon, so I won't have to pull too many more all nighters to get back where I was ;)

It depends on what you want out of it (the restart that is). You can continue your game even with the new patch installed, but any OOB changes wont be reflected, most of the gameplay htings htough will reflect the patch change, ie when the patch comes out, most of what is in there will benefit you but not all, if you can live with this, continue your game.

I guess its a wait and see thing... Oh well. Still, even with a few glitches, this game is well worth the money.

Well...she always wins...but no..not on this game....she does not mess with computers....just the amount of time that i have sprent to get to almost april 42......she does know enough that when she see's me back in Dec 41, i'll get yelled at for wasting me time...oh well....that gives me extra time when she doesn't talk to me anymore [:D] .........acually....if the OOB is the only reason to restart and not for the other fixes..i prob won't even restart

You and me both.

SInce I hae to go back to college in a month, this is my best time to get in as much time as I can, and I don't want to restart if I can help it.

That is ok. My Girlfriend is lovign this game. I spent the weekend playing. In the 30 mins for turn resolution (I'm on 3 days per turn) I did about 15 loads of Laundry, the Kitchen is fixed and clean. the Bathroom is Fixed and clean, The oil in the truck is changed, the projects I had all over the house are finsihed or organized and presentable, and I took her out for Dinner twice. [:D] So she seems ok with this game so far. Oh and she got to watch her movies without me sticking in a war flick someplace, I even sat on teh couch with her and talked about stuff comign up this fall. I just wonder how often she is going to understand my getting up every few minutes to look into the PC room to see if the turn is over [8D]
