Another go?!

Post by JudgeDredd »

So many threads at the moment about "...not played UV for quite some time because [ enter reason here] but started again

Well....just to join the club, I've installed it again last night and started playing Coral Sea.

So I move more fighters from Cairns to PM...and the Air Support says 107 and the Required Air Support says 129? I worked out that, by moving a unit of 12 aircraft out of PM, I could drop the required by 12....BUT how do I increase the Air Support from 107? I have Dakotas flying daily into PM to take supplies. What else can I do? Are these the wrong supplies? What does it mean supplies? I guess parts, oil, fuel, food, water etc, etc is classed as supplies....(I do have a tanker full of oil heading up there...but I don't know if this is any good or not! It may be a pointless excercise...I just don't know)

Apologies if this has been asked before...I admit to being lazy and not looking for it!

To increase your air support you must send another base support unit to the base in question. I usually take base support units from the Australia bases once I have emptied them of aircraft and ground units.

Transfer an army base unit from Brisbane as soon as you have more than one there: within a couple of weeks or so of the game start.

Use just one of your C-47s to move part of the Charter Towers base to PM. If you use more than one you might move the whole base unit out of there and end up with a bunch of broken C-47s sitting out the rest of the war there.

Well...I am picking it up a bit more than before. I think it's just one of those games you need time for....there are so many things to think about.

I just had a bit of a battle with a jap CV task force and I haven't heard from them since...so I guess I frightened them off.

As for using 1 C47? How? I click on the base, click on the aircraft, click on the C47s and select "Supplies" and then set destination to PM. So how do you limit the aircraft to the task in hand?

Also, how do you determine a base unit? All I see are HQs, infantry, AA and engineers.

Thx for replys. I admit I've got to go through the manual....I HAVE printed it out...just need time to read it now. I kind of use it like a reference while I am playing more than anything.

1 unit of C47 not 1 plane
Base Units are classified as Engineers
To transport troops you have to select transport tropps and the unit you want to transport
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)

Ok. Thanks for all this. Really helping.

One more thing before I go and kick some IJA butt. I created a task force last night of APs in Brisbane. I then choose to load troops on these transports. Selected the army units I wanted to load and away it went. When I checked next turn, the troops were loading and at something like 20135 of 23000. I left them there to finish loading and continued the turn. When I went to check the next turn, the troops had started unloading? What's that about?

The way I see it, I had set the troops to load, The first turn they were loading, the second turn they were still loading, so I'd have to wait till the 3rd turn to set the TF on it's way...so why did they start unloading? I guess I can't give the TF a destination until the troops are loaded otherwise the TF will move out with half a load?

Thx again all. If I had been posting topics like this over at the 3000AD, I'd have had a big stick prodded into me. [;)]

When you create the AP taskforce, give it a destination before you load, otherwise it will think its origin is its destination, and start unloading once it has completed loading. Dont worry, it will only depart when it has completed loading the units you instructed it to load. Also if you click " load troops" rather than " load troops only", it will fill up any spare capacity left over with supplies I find it handy to jot down on a pad the load cost of all the units I want to transport, then create a TF with a little more capacity than requred to also take some supplies.

I will normally first select the troops and then choose a destination IN THE SAME TURN. So probably it's not important in which order you select the troops and the destination, but that you do it during the same turn?

Well, just finished the Coral Sea campaign and scored a marginal victory. Good or bad??

I screwed up in a few places....like creating a 12 AP task force in brisbane and loading "Only Troops"...so 3/4 of the ships went to PM empty?! Should I have been sacked for wasting resources? Never mind...got it right in my next TF.

It took me a while to workout how to increase aviation support and general support on PM...but once I worked it out I was on top of it...and able to move more aircraft to PM.

Anyway, that was pretty enjoyable. Now to practice more. Coral Sea again? Or move on to a bigger one?

Good going [:)] I think that was the result I came out with on my first attempt at the game. I'd probably play the first 2 or 3 scenarios as the Allies and then go back and try them from the IJN point of view. After that I'd move on to a longer scenario that involves sending ships back and forth to PH or Japan to get used to that.

Good Luck [:D]
