Defend against missles

Post by Master »

Ok I am commanding the destroyer gerrond and my auto defenses will not shoot down any incomeing missles?

Is this correct? I just took out6 2 dds and 4 ffs but a squad of 8 bombers just destoryed me. I have tried manualy tageting the missles and I have tried letting the ship go fully automated but I always get hit.

Is this how it is suposed to be? When I shot a missle at a enemy ship it gets shot down, why can i not do the same?

Fighters carry anti-ship missiles, ships carry torpedoes. Missiles can't be targetted by defensive weapons, torpedoes can.

I can't shoot down fighter-launched missiles either, but I can shoot down capital ship missiles/torps. I've assumed this is as intended by the designer, but I would have to argue that it doesn't seem right since they are obviously mirroring modern naval combat in the game design. Anti-ship missiles launched by airplanes are often the same weapon as ASM's launched by ships - and all are subject to interception.

I'd have less of a problem with this if some rationale were given in the technical specifications of the ships and weapons to help me suspend my disbelief on how things work in the Starshatter universe - oh, wait, there are no technical specifications on the ships and weapons [;)]

When I am in a fighter and i launch a missle at an enemy destroyer it gets shot down. If I am the destoryer and an enemy fighter shoots a missle at me I get hit.

I am calling BS on this one :)

Does make it tough ... keep one of your other ships slightly in front of you. The fighters will all unload on the one guy then you can kill the fighters ...

You didn't think the rest of your group was there to help did you? they are to absorb damage so you can win [:D]

If you are running a DD squadron with frigate support, Id suggest first using the nav map to assign you and your second DD to fly AWAY from the incoming fighter strike, and then use the f-3 tactical map to order your frigates to attack the incoming fighter strikes. Frigates seem to be very effective against fighters, andthey are the most expendable ship in your squadron should the fighter choose to engage them.

There have been entire missions where Ive dont nothing but order my FF's around to intercept various enemy fighter squadrons going for cruisers and carriers and other DDs on my side. Kinda sucks that I dont seem to get any points for them, but I consider more of my sides ships left at the end of the campaign to be more important than points medal and glory anyway :)

@ Kashre; I agree!

However the game DOES track "Command Points", which give you 1/2 points for kills by ships under your command. Unfortunately they arn't added at end of mission! Milo said that something about this (?) would change in the next patch (which is in QA). I think.
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.
