Graphics Question

Post by HercMighty »

More out of curiosity but will there ever be a 3D Map engine? I like the counters but it would be nice to have a "raised" map instead of the topo maps. I don't know all the problems this would present to the developers so maybe it's just not feasible.

The counters would look a little odd in 3d. The maps in HTTR are far better than RDOA and it looks like CoTA looks even better.

I do believe they can do even better though especialy at close up zoom level.

I don't think that there will be a 3D Map engine. BTW, they'll need to represent the unit in 3D as well. Main reason would be the time and energy needed to realize such a thing.
And, I don't think it will bring any added value for such game. a perfectly readable and good looking topo map is all we need.

OTOH, i'd like to see a 3D game, with the AA game engine, with the scale of CM or just above (1 unit = 1 platoon).

Cheers,

JeF.

A 3d graphics engine is on the wishlist but since it's a massive job, requiring a complete rewrite of a pretty significant slice of the code, it's not likely to happen any time soon. It's not planned for any of our games at the moment.
