Is there really a Prince of Wales Bug?

Post by Runsilentrundeep »

I have heard many times of a bug where the POW can't fire it's main guns. When I play as the Allies and I use her she tends to get beat up during her first fight and does not get most of her hits in. But I do see an occasional big gun hit. I attrubuted it to better IJN admrials. and lack of night fighting ability (add to the fact that the IJN tends to suprise the TF the POW is in about 60% of the time). So is there really a bug?
There are only two types of vessels in the water, submarines and targets.

I've enjoyed some success with the PoW and have noticed that in night time engagements that it and other ships do tend to use the smaller caliber guns more, but that is not to say they don't use the big guns.

Wait for a day light engagement at 20,000 yards. Its a real joy to see transports blown to bits with nothing coming back! [:D]

This was the same in UV, and affects all battleships. Not much firing of big guns at night, especially close up. The only issue I've heard of with the PoW is that one of the turrets' facing is wrong (OOB error).

Personally I try and avoid night engagements with my battlewagons ...

In UV and so probably WITP, BB seem to be rather bad in night battles, except against other BB. The only ship able to sink an IJN BB is an USN BB, while LOng Lance may end quickly the carreer of an USN BB. I Have seen several times an USN BB being the only ship of her TF not sunk or crippled, even after taking 100+ shell hits. On one occasion, I had a force of CL and DD follow her tpo her base the next night and she didn't survive the Long Lance attack launched at the beginning of the game...

BB are good for CV escort, shore bombardment and day battles. As they did historically.

Does this change when they get better Radar?

I don't think so. My UV experience show that BB will not fire much in naval battles only some salvoes. Of course one is enough to cripple a DD trying to attack them. IN fact most of the BB fire is "defensive", replying after someone else fired on them, usually with shells bouncing without doing harm.
