Torpedo bombers height?

Post by irishman »

Anybody?,
In the combat report, my Nells and Bettys are always given as attacking at height 200ft. So does it matter what height they are set to attack at initially? If so, what height gives the best results (most accurate, not worried about flak).

If they're dropping torpedos, they have to descend to 200 feet, because that's how air-dropped torpedos worked -- you had to be close to the water when you dropped it, or it wouldn't survive the drop. The altitude you set only really matters if the planes are carrying bombs (because they're attacking at extended range, for example, and can't carry a torpedo that far).

Lets see here, the manual says that you take flak at the approach altitude and then again at the attack altitude. I would guess that approaching higher would put you above some small caliber flak and make even the larger guns miss more often. Try an approach of 13000 feet and see if there is a difference in flack losses. [:)]

If they are set to high then it does effect accuracy. a good height is 7000ft for them I find

Hi all,

I agree with you about the effect of the altitude on the accuracy.

So I always set up the height from 6000ft to 8000ft based on the crew experience.
It works fine on the Allied transport task force trying to resupply PM. (very light losses)

Regards.
