Minesweepers keep minesweep mission even if ASW mission chosen and shown on scree

and apologies if this has already been noted, I can't read everything that comes through.

Basically, I chose two minesweepers to run an asw patrol. But they leave port with a mine warfare ship icon,
but also say ASW in the taskforce description window. Go to the set mission dialog and you will note that the computer thinks they are on a mine warfare mission. You must select ASW in the set mission dialog after the TF is formed to set their proper mission.

I only twigged to this when my (so called) ASW patrols were getting slaughtered by the lurking Jap subs. I would click on a patrol and set a destination; then the message window would say... 'TF #### will conduct mine warfare ops in hex ##,##. I knew I had set them as ASW when they left port. Once you actually change their mission back to ASW in the set mission box, they do their work. It just isn't taking right off the hop.

I had this happen again. I have pre and post files if required.

They leave port with the proper icon, seems to change over icon and mission upon reaching the DH. Whyalla is in the TF each time, but perhaps only because she is running so many ASW missions.

I edited the last screen shot you posted using MS Paint.


The trick is to use the select function to copy what you want to post, open a new file got to Image select Attributes and change the image size to 100 x 100 then do a paste and the image size will expand to fit you pasted image.

What is happening is that the code is picking up that you are using minesweepers in a role that they are not designed for, so it tries to tell you that your minesweepers really are minesweepers. Its a factor of the code allowing you to attach minesweepers to ASW TF's, but the code doesnt like it when you set minesweepers up as a ASW TF by themselves and it tries to revert to its true role

This makes good sense - I have often gutted Transport TFs of Transports, leaving behind Surface Warfare ships - but I had thought they would stay transport missioned.

SO, if I forget next time, my DDs that are in a Transport Mission without Transports should revert to Surface Combat on it's own?

I have noticed that Bombardment TFs will revert to Surface without warning - which is kind of irritating, especially when I put them on Patrol.

The game will basically try and figure out silly things and pick the logical choice ... doesn't always happen because it is very dependant on the exact types of ships involved.
