This great game has so many rare aircraft included,I thought it might be a nice thing to recommend a book that describes the role these planes (and their pilots had) early in that war.
"The Ragged,Rugged Warriors",by Martin Caiden is one of the finest, detailed accounts I know of.I don't know if it is still in print, but I have seen editions of it released every few years..I would give it 5 stars ref this timeframe..[:D]

"The Lonely Ships:Life and death of the U.S. Asiatic fleet" by Edwin P. Hoyt is another good book which details the U.S. Navy 7th fleet, which were it's ships in the Phillipines and South China Sea area..
The book relates the struggles during the early months of the war and the U.S. Navies' attempts to coordinate with the new ABDA command structure.......Excellent history..[:D]

Absolutely must read Frank's "Guadalcanal". He cover's every aspect of the campaign in an extremely readable fashion. You really get the feeling of what a desperate, titanic, struggle it was.

For those interested in the first months in the campain, "Bloddy Shambles" (two books by Chris Shores) describes the air action over Malaya, DEI, Philipinnes, Burma (up to May 1942), Kavieng, Rabaul and the raids against Australia (Darwin and Broome) and Ceylon in really good details, from Allied and Japanese sources checking eachother.
Gives also a good view of the land and sea warfare in the area.

The Wake battle is one page long, Pearl Harbor is not described, there are in the two books 226 pages on Malaya, 55 on Philipinnes, 264 on DEI (including the naval exodus from Singapore and the raid on Broome), 115 on Burma, 17 on Darwin and the raid of the Lexington on Rabaul and 50 on Ceylon. The first book ends with the fall of SIngapore, but the second goes some time back to describe in details the battle of Endau and the operations over Sumatra before the landings.
