CTDs after installing 4.0.1
I've had a few CTDs at the start of missions since installing the 4.0.1. patch. Errlog.txt file attached.

Me too. Thought it was because I was continuing a Campaign started under 4.0.0 so I started a new campaign. In this log I started a new campaign, failed on my 1st mission, and CTD when I selected my 2nd mission.

I have always had them. But they are worse now with this new patch. When a capitol ship explodes I have about a 33% chance of hitting the desktop now.

I'm experiencing the same problems. I finally get to keep all the fighters I launch after the mission but I can't finish the missions.... argh

I'm also have ton's of CTD's since I installed the 4.0.1 patch. They occur just when I start the mission and also at the completion of the mission. I don't have the errlog.txt file here at work but will send it along latter. I'm thinking of doing a complete reinstall plus patch but wanted to wait and see if this issue is being investigated before I do so since I would lose all my rank.

You can backup your rank by makeing a copy of your "player.cfg" file. Also back up any custom missions you created.

1) I'm getting CTDs as well. V4.0.0 was rock solid. Started a new "Shining Fortress" campaign and reached Day 3. Now that the cap ships have start engaging each other I CTD constantly when one is destroyed.
2) Entering any mission for the first time after loading results in my carrier quantuming away, leaving me launching from an invisible bay in space. Aborting the mission, reloading the campaign and re-entering the same mission makes everything OK.
3) I got an intel message saying that a squadron ("Wizzards") that was in the Fortress campaign, but not in my sector had engaged and destroyed a fighter for the lost of one of its own. On checking the sortie record for the squadron it was still shown as 0 sorties for 0 kills, but one fighter was missing - I though 4.0.1 fixed this.
Ho hum - First post and its all been slightly negative so for balance...
This really is a great game and a truely impressive achievement [:)]

Yes, I've already attempted that. I went all the back to the Highland campaign and started anew. Still suffer the CTD's. I'll backup my player.cfg as suggested by Master and do a reinstall + patch this evening. I'll let you know how I make out.

It makes no difference. I uninstalled Starshatter completely. then reinstalled and patched and I get the same problem. I play a mission, select my next mission, select my loadout, etc, and then it CTD when the new mission is supposed to start.
I've unistalled again, and will reload without the patch. I can live with the glitches more easily than I can live with CTD. Hopefully this is resolved soon, a bad patch like this can really hurt business early on. This game is too good to be marred by something like this.

I too just got a CTD, including errlog.txt. Also, there are some other bugs. For example, why does my wingman always do loop-de-loops? Also, why am I asked to attack a "foothill" base when there doesn't appear to be a foothill base once I reach planetside? Overall, I'm having a great time with this game, and these are just the little things that plague a new release. Awesome job, Milo.

They are helping somewhat. All of these crashes appear to be related to stale-pointer bugs, possibly several different ones. I'm thoroughly puzzled as to why 4.0.1 is suddenly much worse than 4.0.0 was. All of the areas that appear to be crashing were unaffected by the code in the patch.
I've been running Purify on the 4.0.1 build all night looking for loose screws. I've found and hopefully fixed a couple of possible problems, but it's hard to catch the thing in flagrante delicto. One bug is related to firing beam weapons, and another is related to shooting down incoming torpedoes. Obviously, both of those things work in general - they happen several hundred or thousand times in each game - and that makes it harder to isolate the 0.1% of cases in which those functions are failing.
Now that's interesting. You are able to start a campaign, but not play any missions? Can you play any of the single or custom missions?I had exactly ZERO crashes before 4.0.1 and now I CTD before every mission.

We feel for you Milo ... you never know, it could be that something that was broken in 4.0.0 that you fixed in 4.0.1 was doing a good job of masking the problem [;)]
