Can't Find Serial Number

Post by doc smith »

I got the CD for WitP today and tried to install it. I was asked to provide a serial number. Only two numbers on the CD - an 8 digit number, then the same number plus eleven zeroes and a 1. Won't accept either one as the serial number. What am I supposed to use? There are no other numbers on the disk or the mailing package.[&:]

The serial number should also be in your confirmation email from Digital River.

Also, be sure to include the hyphens "-" between each 4 digits.

The serial number was in the confirmation e-mail you got after you bought the download.

You should have gotten an e-mail confirmation from DR when you ordered. Thats where it'll be. [:)]

I probably deleted the message unopened. I never expected e-mail from some outfit called digital river and if it didn't say War in the Pacific in the message block, I probably classified it as spam.

What do I do now?[&:]

Go to the store and choose the option to check your order status. You can access that with your e-mail address and the last 5 digits or your credit card (or your order number & password). It will show your serial number.

BTW - The subject block on the confirmation e-mail was most likely: Order Confirmation.

You can retrieve the serial number at any time.

Please go to our E-Store and click on "help" , there check the "I need to lookup my serial / unlock key" link.

Which is the problem, many spams/worms/virius are likely to use innocuous things like Billing Error, order Confirmation, Your Order, among many things that entice one to open the attachment.

Digital River should use a more unique subject through it could
likely get added into use by nasties, better yet a variable subject
generated, WITP Order Confirm, Order Confirm WITP, Your WITP Order CONFIRM etc..

I'll be frank, if I had not read and known I'd get an order confirm from Digital River I'd have not bothered to check a mail with a simple Order confirm "generic" heading.

However also when Ordering it tells you the serial number will be Emailed... so I expected something from Digital River in my suspect spam ( not knowing addrss it uses it wouldn't been whitelisted, would been put in my suspect folder, deleted auto after 14 days not in my Inbox)

Many companys use such generic subjects( order confirm) and so worm spreaders use them..

Or create a text, word or other word processor file with just the serial number, save it so you can copy and paste it.
