There is also some sabotage work done in Germany itself if you leave the territories lightly defended....if you start withdrawing troops from occupied areas to cover other fronts, you'll find yourself spending valuable supplies on repairs....

Non in Turkey? I would assume from Turkish History that if they were invaded - rather doubtful that a player would do so (?) - that partisans might crop up.

Also, why no partisans in Afghanistan - recently invaded in an AAR - which has a long history of partisan activity? Adding this to afghanistan might help to balance the game a bit more towards historical results while still allowing players the maximum amount of freedom - ie they might be less likely to invade Afghanistan if partisans could appear.

actually i think partisans start to "grow" in any country against the initial player nation to conquer the region, the second player nation to take the region is considered the liberator and there is no partisan activity against the liberator.

here is a snippet from the docs we have:
1) Each turn that an area is considered hostile with the controlling player of that area, partisans gain strength in that area. Each turn at the beginning of the production phase for the occupying player, the population value of the area is added to the partisan value. Then, as long as the controlling country has one supply point in the area or adjacent area (which is expended), the partisan value is reduced by 1 for every infantry, airborne and/or mechanized unit in the area. Then, each remaining partisan point gets to attack the supplies and rail units in the area (and possibly resource and factory as well). If partisans attack and fail, the partisan value may be decreased. Once the partisan value reaches 5, combat units in the area may be attacked by the partisans.

Impressive, Fast response,

Question - In the Akula AAR - " We also took Afghanistan, which has no resources, but we simply don't know how to stop" - will the player eventually face partisans in Afghanistan if they don't station enough units in that country (as I assume the population value for Afghanistan is very low)? and insight on why the Allies might conquer Afghanistan if it has no resources or rail links?

I posted that snippet you quote so I assume it's fair that I answer this [:D]

No, I don't think I'll face partisans in Afgh. I'd have to check Afgh partisan value to be sure but I'm 90% certain there will be no partisans there. "Partisans", in terms of this game, represent fairly organised military units capable of dealing some real damage. I don't think any Afghanistan unit in the period that this game covers (and more), so in like 1930-1960, could have been considered "organised military unit capable of deling some real damage" to the occupying power (in this case WA, or more precisely British Indian army) so they may be ignored on this scale.

Even more so, since Afgh has no resources, no supplies, no production, and no railway, so partisans, even if they would appear, would not be able to do anything that would matter gameplay-wise [:D]

Afghanistan has a poluation of 0, so it will generate 0 Partisans per turn. 0 Partisans will do no damage every turn to the "no resources, no supplies, no production, and no railway" that is there. [:D]

As long as the Germans are not around the area, there's no real advantage to take Afghanistan and it costs supplies to attack it and then move the unit out of it (at least 2) so it not entirely "free". In this game, almost everything you do costs supplies, and they are the not so hidden costs of all operations.
