Editing Saved Games ?

Post by UdiHrant »

Is this possible? You end a turn in War In the Pacific - during the execution phase a flight of your Kates attack a convoy of Transports with a few defending DD's. The scirmish ends with the loss of 4 Kates and 1 transport. You save the game and exit but then . . .

You fire up Pacific Fighters from UbiSoft and quickly create the same mission using their mission editor. When you fly it in 3D flight sim mode you manage to sink 2 transports and a DD - maybe you lose 5 Kates in the process.

Can I then somehow open the saved WitP saved game file and modify those results?????

Get my idea? The more detailed use of a good flight sim, land game or Fighting Steel or even the upcoming Knights of the Sea would be awsome in the greater context of the entire Pacific War.

Any chance (for those who already own WitP???

The save files are encrypted for obvious reasons.

I know what you are talking about though and at times it would be nice to jump into that ship and man the guns yourself and put the darn things on target [;)]

What obvious reasons? I see no reason not to have open, editable saved files with a password option for those who don't trust their PBEM partner.

Well, me and my hex editor that could get past that password in about 2 seconds would disagree. They are scrambled to be unreadable to ensure PBEM's stay legit. Were the file not packed tight, they would be even larger then they are now and they are sitting right on the border of most mail servers as is.

This is not something that will change.

God, don't let them get any bigger. I'm hoping that they can be made smaller, like was done with UV post-release.

Ummm why is it that way, instead of only PBEM saves done that way?

Thats to say , Game started as PBEM=saves get encrypted, Game started vs AI = not done, and also A check to see if saved loaded is PBEM or not, if PBEM it will encrypt saves, if not then it is editable..

You took a tool away, I expected an editor included that would allow editing Saves made vs the AI..

Saves have never been editable nor has there ever been a save game editor.

Adding a completely separate routine and inventing an editor to work with the files is well beyond the scope of a scenario editor which is in the game. I can't think of any game off the top of my head that allows editing of a game once you have started to play it.

Original Pacific war had editors for it, not official, but point is those edited both the oob and the saves [:'(]

This is a Remake of the Classic Original, and so in a sense your incorrect on "never a save game editor" In the sense of the Game the New one is a Remake of [:D]

Bears Editor edits the old (and also Matrix version of Original) saves and OOB's.

Thats why I expected the included editor for this to include ability to edit saves

Every game developed by Paradox.

Just being picky, not complaining about the current state of the game. Their save files are huge, too, so I actually prefer this way. [:D]
