Where to rotate troops out for the IJA?

Post by worr »

When it comes time to rotate the troops and give them RR, where it the best place?

I would assume large base, no malaria would be good. But should you also look for a place with a manpower mill? Or do you get replacements in the field?

For example, you take the Philippian Islands. There is a manpower mill at Manila, I believe. It is also a large enough port, without malaria. Is that as good a place as any to rotate troops?

And what about the US side? Is Noumea still good? Or do you need the manpower mill to bring troops back up to strength?

No, manpower is sent to a general pool and may be used anywhere.

Don't forget that bases have a native nationality and will have their production reduced by 90% if another country occupies then, so I thinks Manila (1 manpower) will become 0.1, 0 or 1 (depending of the rounding) once taken by the Japanese, not so much Philippinos volunteers for the Great Asian Prosperity Sphere

To let units rest (disabled squads returning to normal, general fatigue and disruption getting low) you need the biggest bases possible with a lot of supplies and in a non-malarial hex. Truk is still a good place for the Japanese, PH, Australia and NZ are fine for Allied troops.

Replacements are created using supplies. I had several invasions running short of supply while transports were unloading them and I now think it is a good idea to turn replacement off when sending an invasion force as the unit will use local supply points to create new squads to replace its losses after the battle.

Guess I missed that the first time around. That is a change from UV, yet why then do I still get replacement units that spawn in the port of origin? And am I to expect replacement units will always come from the same port?

Because your HQ is in that said port. There are a couple of different threads that talk about HQ's and the replacement feature.

Is the effect of malaria as debilitating in WiTP as it was in UV? I'm in March of my first campaign as Allies (against the AI), and so far I can't really tell. I did just reinforce Port Moresby with fresh troops, so maybe that will be a good baseline for me to assess it with.

Also, Noumea (and indeed any temperate zone) is OK, right? I notice that most of eastern India is temperate; most of Burma is not.

Any temperate zone is OK.

As in sais, in UV, the greater the units the best they survive malaria, as the number of squads was not taken in account. If this is the same in WITP, as most units are big, this is not so a problem. It may become one when fighting will be fought in malaria zones.

Anyone think about rotating troops in and out of Manchuria? This is generally a very quiet zone, where you can have units rebuild at your leisure. A fringe benefit is to deploy a savaged division from the Pacific theatre to the Manchurian theatre, then release a fresh Manchurian Division to take its place in the Pacific. This way you always have top of the line, and fully equipped forces in your front lines, with faster turnarounds (i.e., you don't send the 1st Division to Truk to rebuild, resulting a 'hole' in the line created by the 1st's departure, but switch around the 1st Division with the 42nd Division which has been sitting in Manchuria for a year, maybe in a year the 1st is ready to be sent out again in exchange for another unit). However, you will have to spend a lot of PPs switching unit HQs around.

Sounds good in theory to release a Manchuria div, but have you seen the PP cost yet? Talk about high.

Maybe 3000 for a division. What do you get, 50 a day? Two months' worth.....could be worth it, though. As always, depends on what else is going on.

Manchuria is a cold zone, which may increase fatigue levels I'm not sure.

Doesn't increase fatigue, rather slows fatigue recovery, and only during the winter (Nov-Feb).

True, it may be worth it if I manage to save that many points. Maybe I should not spend the points so quick moving High exp fighter groups out of Japan. Probably have a surplus later in the war though.
