Continual steering drift towards right

Post by Mithent »

I've been trying the Starshatter demo, which looks very interesting, but I'm not enjoying it much because of my constant need to work against my fighter's drift to the right. Every second or so it jolts right, which needs continual correction, and this happens in either keyboard or mouse mode, which seems to indicate that it's not the hardware causing the trouble.

Has anyone experienced this or have any idea how I might be able to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Are you using a wireless keyboard? Had some problems with those. Is it translating or steering right?

I have a wireless mouse (Microsoft Optical Mouse 2.0), but the keyboard is wired (Microsoft Internet Keyboard). I'm running on Windows 2000 Professional with a GeForce4 Ti4200 if it's any help.

I've not seen it happening in an external view so I'm not sure whether it's steering or translating.. can you use an external view in normal flight?

Yes, the F2 button goes to a chase camera and the f3 button goes to Orbit view. Try binding 'turn right' to something other than the right arrow on the keyboard.

If you are using the main F1 view, and you see the stars and nebula graphics drifting across the display, then you are turning. On the other hand, if the background stars are fixed on the screen but the other ships and weapons fire are drifting across the display, then you are translating.

Maybe your mouse needs calibrating.

Just a little joke. Leave me alone; I'm tired.
