MP Missions

My group started off playing the demo in MP. Looked good, even though there were only a few missions. So, we each bought the game. Hmmm...Still only a few MP missions![&:]

Is that it? 4 MP missions? It looks fun - especially the cooperative ability, but I was hoping for more.[X(]

You can make your own missions very easy. ;)

Im pretty sure there will come mission downloads make by the community for the standard game as well.

The mod projects that are running atm will have plenty of new missions, both single player and multi player.

This is to encourage the user community to participate by creating multiplayer missions to share with their friends and other Starshatter players.

If someone wants to explain the Campaign system instead of just the mission system, we could really get going ... missions just by themselves are rather boring without the reason for them to exist.

I have been working on a MP mission which is fairly vast and since the main fleets will be player driven it will function just like one of the single player campaigns.

The only problem is with a large amount of ships and or flight operation groups (cvs and stations) the MP starts to develope serious lag issues. I havent found a way around this yet.

single player stand alone missions are quite booring but extencive mp missions that are scenarios rahter then missions is extreamly cool...

Has anyone played DarkSpace? I played it briefly for free and I saw a lot of starships, blazing weapons etc. Experienced lag was from little to none. So that works well, why not Starshatter?

Well for one thing DarkSpace is an explicitly online-only game and was designed that way from the ground up. The other thing being is that player ships, the most unpredictable elements and requiring the most updating, can only move in a 2d plane in DS. In contrast pretty much everything moves in a 3d plane in SS and no server that has run SS has had anywhere near the pipe of DS. Comparatively Milo just hasn't spent much time on online stuff.

I'm not sure but I bet doing prediction code for AI vessels would be a total pain as well. So they're probably updated just like player ships.

So yeah maybe MP will get some love after the 4.0.1 crashing is resolved... we'll see.

Which seems odd. It's easy to make the missions. I myself just arn't satisfied with the polish of any of my missions. :/

What would be nice would be a scripted missions clearinghouse, where reviewers could rate missions after they're uploaded. Several games (Total Annihilation, Stronghold, off the top of my head) had sites with extremely good such systems and it worked superbly.
