Real Newbee question on TF directions

Post by john martino »

Guys I just fired up this great game and love it but I am obviously doing something wrong. When I fired up the Corel Sea Scen. I had two US air combat TF in New Caladonia (Noumea) with several US CVs. I plotted my move so that they would proceeded to the Coral Sea area to meet the enemy. To my fustration it seemed as if they would venture out (slowly) and seemed to be proceeding to move back to the home port of Noumea. Somehow I was only able to "correct" this by setting a new home base for the TF as Gili Gili. This got to the correct combat area but was a disaster because my ships kept going to GiGi even after Japs had recently caputured it. Needless to say my carrier and all escort were cut to pieces by near by Jap carriers and other land based air units. What am I doing wrong. Do I have to set a new home base for task force. Sorry for being such a newbee!
PS When damaged ships reach a port at what point may you elect to send them back to Pearl? And once in repair are there any screens that will tell you how many days the ship will be layed up?

If your TF is set to "retire", then the ships will "return to base" upon reaching the destination hex.

If you want the TF to "stay put", set your orders to "Do Not Retire", then, when they reach the hex, they'll stay put until they get low of fuel, then they automatically begin the return journey.

On the task force information window. Double click on the TF, one of the buttons up near the picture should say "Retirement Allowed". Click on the arrow and it should change to "Patrol/Do Not Retire", or something close to that.
