Sub Tender question
Do Sub Tenders need to be the same "nationality" as the sub they are tending? I was trying to use a US sub tender in Darwin, and it reloaded a US sub fine. But when I brought a Dutch sub in it wouldn't re-load torpedoes. I tried making the Sub Tender into a TF at the base, then disbanding it, making the sub into a TF, then disbanding it and so on, but still no torpedoes. Each time I did a "replenish" of the sub, however, the "ops" went up to a 1000, but still no torpedoes appeared. Dutch subs do replenish nicely in the main Dutch base as long as a Sub Tender is there.
Anyone have any ideas of what went wrong?
Thanks -

RE: Sub Tender question
I don't know if they have to be....but from a realism point of view it would make sense. Looking at it from the other side a Dutch tender probably wouldn't have a supply of Mk 14 torpedoes or maintenance shops for them aboard. The way the 14 performs in combat you wish you could load the Dutch torpedoes. [:D]
Don't sub tenders also impart a repair bonus as well? I wonder it it has to be the same nationality then too.

agree on one hand and don't on the other..
yes they use different loadoutsbut, in an abstracted game .. where ships do get to use Enmey captured beans and bullets, and why not allow this, after all the allies get to share soooo much not really historically possible....

Yep
i have the same thing happening, also AD's seem not to supply to other nationallities, ie US AD's dont seem to supply british destroyers with torps.
Are there any british AD and AS in the game ? no worries if there were non historically, just means all the brit and dutch subs are tied to large ports. I dont know enough about british sub ops in the asian region to know what really happened.

RE: Sub Tender question
If I recall the British submarine Trenchant sank the Japanese heavy cruiser Ashigara late in the war. Then there was the famous British midget sub attack on Singapore...but that can't be recreated in the game. [:D]

Okay, so this looks to be an "undocumented feature". [;)]
BTW - are you aware of a way to sort the lists of ships by nationality? I'd like to be able to tell which ship belongs to which nation without trying to guess from names.

RE: Sub Tender question
Since each Navy used different main gun ammo and different diameter torps I guess it`s pretty realistic that each AD and AS and AE can only supply it`s own Navy`s ships. [8D]

RE: Sub Tender question
In real life the sub-tender would not actually be providing the torpedo. The tender provides the workshops and the trained personnel to load and maintain them. Torpedo's would come from base supplies. True, the tenders would be working with unfamiliar equipment but could become proficient fairly quickly.

RE: Sub Tender question
Hmmm. The way they have it set up in the game a submarine with all torpedoes expended can reload torpedoes from a small port provided that there is an undamaged sub tender there. But then in that occasion perhaps the tender just serves as a reload crane and not a source of torpedoes. [8D]
RE: Sub Tender question
I think Frag and/or the manual says the AS needs to be a size 3 port with "enough" supply, ( my guess is at least 2500 supply.) Page 186 in the Manual has the details.

The manual says, "Subs may only reload torpedoes when in the hex with a size 8, 9, or 10 port with sufficient supplies or in a hex with an AS ship and a base with sufficient supplies."
What the manual doesn't say is what constitutes "sufficient supplies". When I had that Dutch sub in Darwin there were around 15,000 supply points there, along with the AS, and the port was up to a size 5, but the Dutch sub still wouldn't reload torpedoes. On the other hand, the US sub had been there a couple of turns before and had reloaded nicely.
But thanks for your suggestion.

RE: Sub Tender question
I have the 2 Dutch Sub tenders in Broom size 4 port with 9000 supply and it reloads and repairs( slowly ) the Subs.
Maybe I`m wrong and it needs more supply [:(]

That's consistant - I had a US sub tender in Darwin.

I already made this bug report.
please see thread AE's AS's MLE's OH MY!
thank you

Already on the fixed list.
The nationality limit was not intentional and it has been removed.

I thought you said something about requiring 20k supplies for torp reloads Frag?
Or was the 20k number in relation to something else?
I'm just shoving supplies everywhere to be safe

20k was PT limit, it has been downscaled in the next patch to a more reasonable 3k
RE: Sub Tender question
If you have to stay within nationalities then why am I able to reload my Dutch subs in Singapore? I do have Singapore set as their home base. Does this make the differince I'm seeing? (engineers upgraded to a size 9 port)
RE: Sub Tender question
If you have to stay within nationalities
you don't, it's a bug.
RE: Sub Tender question
Aha, I get it.
It's the same as using Vlad as their home base. Guess I was making it kinda gamey without realizing it.
