Intelligence sources in Washington DC indicate that the Banana may have been overthrown in Japan. According to HYPO, the Banana has been locked in a fruit cellar and was last heard to be screaming

Alas....cooler heads have pervailed. The situation is hopeless and thousands are dead on the beaches of SF and if anything the Yankee defences are stronger than ever, now buttressed at Level 9 forts.

New orders have been transmitted to Combined Fleet....."Try and get them out"

KB retreats with a mere 116 planes left to their name. The only 'good' news is that all six fleet carriers are still afloat having only lost two CVL's (if you include the old Hosho)

More bad news for the Japanese. In addition to the air losses. The TF that was carrying much of Formosa's land based air strength was sunk at sea by interposing Allied TF's. These air units were to have been used once the Banana's forces had secured SF.

Did the Yorktown auto retreat to S.F. harbor ?

no....that was a pure game quirk. SF is the "portal" for USN ship reinforcments so she sort of "magically" appeared in harbor along with a bunch of transports. The Banana figured.....hey dont look a gift horse in the mouth. I thought it was going to be free points for the Japanese.....turned out to be the death knell of Japanese carrier aviation (for the time being) Xfring the airgroups to SF seemed the safest bet......if i'd created a CV TF, Yorktown would have been dead meat

Of course if this had been a real game.....and if i was feeling nasty, i could have done the same with the other three CV's too (land the airgoups and just launch em from SF) but i figured that wouldn't have been how the real commanders would have played it. That and i was afraid the airgoups would ahve been destroyed either on the ground or in the air.

Ah well.....yeah it was three US CV's, but in return i've banged up KB for no gain and sank two CVL's Hornet Wasp and Yorktown are still in the mix......and the SRA is safe (heh)

Various semi-random thoughts: Air traffic control must be a bitch for the US.

After this, they won't speak Japanese even in Hell when the US gets done.

And one of the limitations of the game vs. reality. Sorry, Nikademus, sir, but the Japanese ships are NOT in the harbor unloading. All the port facilities are inside the Bay, not on the Pacific. You can only get to them by passing thru the Golden Gate. And you are NOT passing thru the Gate unless you control the Presidio (which basically means most of the city of San Francisco), the Marin headlands AND Alcatraz Island. Its only a mile to mile and a half wide, so you'd be facing coastal defense batteries firing at about 1,000 yards. From three directions. (Each side and directly ahead.) [:-] (But then again, you probably already know this, so I'll shut up now. [:D])

All that remains now is the continued mopping up of the scattered and retreating merchant forces that were used to first ship, then evacuate thousands of Japanese troops.
