Newbie Qestion AAF relay?

Post by john martino »

Guys I am really loving the game!!! Question early in the campaign I as the US player gets a fait number of Army Air units like P-39s. How can I move them to forword bases lets say from Espiritu Santo to Lunga??? Can ships ever transport them? Or is there a provision of long range transfer? I think I got the hang of moving air units to Port Morsby but how do I get short range army air units to bases in the Solomons???? Can and how do ships tranport planes??????????

Lunga is out of range for your fighter squadrons based at Esperitu Santo and as it is not possible in UV to transport aircrafts by ship; so the only remaining solution is to transfer your squadron on a CV or CVE and carry them on to Lunga.
But you must be aware that your carrier will be overloaded and will not be able to conduct any air operations for the time it operates this mission unless you transfer one of your carrier squadron to a land base before embarking your P-39 squadron.

I always played UV as IJN player but I suggest you get better use of your carrier than using them to carry some fighter squadron to Lunga. You should wait for the arrival of the CVE Long Island (end of May 42) to perform this kind of task but I am afraid that it will be too late.

So I can transport Army Air units like P-39s or P-40s on a Carrier. I agree that using a CVE is the the best way to do this. I also understand that my CVE will not be able air op during this process. Final question must the CVE dock and then unload instead of flying them in? ( I assume this to be the case)

It can fly them off but there is a high op loss costs of doing so
