UV not running!

I just got a new computer and wanted to reinstall UV on that. UV worked very well on my old p3 800mhz with 512mb RAM with Win 98SE. Now I have a p4 3ghz with 1024mb RAM and Win XP Home. The gun runs slow when I load it and after the selection screens it freezes and the screen is just a blur. [:@] The loading is in fact slower now also. What is wrong? I liked UV and now I'm startng a PBEM game for the first time in UV... [:(]

Have you tried the troubleshooting FAQ? Did you istall the patches? If so in what order? Did you run DXdiag (should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder)? Is DirectX ver 9.0B?

I've reinstalled the game with all the patches in the correct (chronical) order up to 2.30.
I've also updated my audio and video drivers. The game now runs but it takes an awfully long time to creep from the last loading scene to the actual game. It must take at least 20 seconds. Isn't that rather slow?

I've asked my PBEM opponent to send me a new file so we'll see...
And yes I have DirectX 9.0b

I seem to recall a problem with sound hardware acceleration. Its in the sound tab of dxdiag, turn it off and see if that helps.

I tried to turn of the sound hardware acceleration, but it was no difference. Guess I have to live with the fact that the game is a bit slower than I expected. The main thing is that the game WORKS....! [:D]

I just got a new computer on the 10th and hadn't installed UV on it because of WitP. I just now installed it and it smokes (compared to my PII 400Mhz with 128Mb RAM) and no problems found. The order I installed the patches in was 2.00 through 2.30. I didn't install the 1.xx patches. Did you? If so you may want to uninstall UV, reinstall and just install the 2.00 through 2.30 patches and see if that helps.

Edited in: P.S. If you just got UV launch it to check the version # before running the patches. I know UV was ship with different versions depending on when you got it.

What version was the game out of the box? If you have recently bought the game it was already patched to version 2.3 and patching over the top would have caused issues?

Have you tried unistalling/reinstalling then checking the version before looking to put the patches in

I bought the game when it came out in 2002 (v 1.0). I've patched it all the way from when the new patches came out. It worked very well on my old computer, and it works okay now, but as I said, it's a bit slower to load and play.

I reinstalled it twice from v 2.0 to 2.30.
