RE: AAR - Jupiter
From the AAR's I've read would it be correct to say the best stratagey to use with subs is to use them in waves and not just send them peicemeal into the Atlantic?
Also are subs useful for anyone else besides Germany?

RE: AAR - Jupiter
You are absolutely right - one or two subs is just chafe in the furnace. You need to have multiple subs in multiple locations to make a real dent in the Allied supply lines. It stretches their light fleet units out & makes them easier to damage or destroy.
Both the Western Allies & Japan need subs as well, to conduct the necessary sub campaigns in the Pacific.

Possess them not with fear! Take from them now
The sense of reck'ning, or th' opposed numbers
Pluck their hearts from them. Not today, O Lord

good to hear. I was just curious sense the few public AARs have not said much about subs in the Pacific.

RE: AAR - Jupiter
The Western Allies have struck a blow for the good guys....
Mussolini was asleep at the switch. Southern Italy was defended by 1 measly militia units and German Air and Tac-Air unit. The WA attacked with 1 Fighter and 2 Carrier Air which damaged the German Air and also knocked out the militia. We then Amphibiously invaded with Infantry from Africa and took the area. Immediately the area was reinforced with more troops and an artillery unit.
I don't expect to be able to keep my foothold but Paullus will have to expend time and supply to root me out.... [:D]

Germany - Summer 1941
Well, not what we wanted to the start of our Russian campaign (southern Italy is a distraction we can little afford at the moment). We made limited gains into Soviet Territory, but are well poised for our Fall follow up assaults. We shall take care of Southern Italy shortly & have once again sent our U-Boats against allied supply lines.

Japan - Summer 1941
The Kwantung Army continued its victorious march across China - seizing one of the last industrial areas in the country (leaving only Sinkiang remaining). We have taken steps to reinforce our positions, move more militia into the country to act against partisans & move our infantry formations to where they can do the most good.

RE: AAR - PBEM Game "Jupiter"
Soviets, Summer 1941.
Let me digress by revealing Soviet strategy for the last year: the typical Barbarossa invasion will cost the Soviets three factories right off the bat: Kiev, Belorussia and Kharkov. So, in the first turn, I queue up two factories in Central and South Urals.
Then, I split my first turn between building supply and research points; I want to have a nice stockpile of supply to run counterattacks in 1941 (when my factories will be otherwise occupied producing reinforcements) and I want some major upgrades. My goal over the first year is to upgrade armor evasion and attack, infantry evasion and attack, artillery evasion and attack, and flak attack. I managed to accomplish everything except increases to infantry attack and artillery evasion.
This put me behind the eight ball in terms of producing units, which is very dangerous against a player like paullus, who knows how to conquer the USSR in a hurry. So, I began to focus on quick build units -- lots of artillery, mainly, and then militia as the deadly date approached.
The Summer 41 turn saw Leningrad heavily defended, and I think it would have held, but the south was in an awful state, and a concentrated attack there might have undone me.
Enter IDrinkBeer -- his diversion in Italy gave me a huge respite. I moved factories out of Belorussia and Kharkov, saving two usually lost factories and adding to my Ural (and now Caucasus) production. I have also attempted to strengthen my front line to make it very hard for paullus to break in. Make no mistake: if he breaks in, there's nothing to stop him, but I've done my best to create a tough line of defense. I also sent the lone Soviet sub in Leningrad out to sink a German transport.
Fortress Rodina awaits the next turn!

Summer '41 - WA
Reinforced Southern Italy. Sent some German U-boats back to be repaired ( wish I would have killed them outright ). Re-established my supply lines and did some more research. The next couple of turns will be interesting.
China
Rolling over and playing dead for the Japanese.

Germany - Fall 1941
The Allied position in Southern Italy is too strong for us to attack outright. Instead, we plan on hitting them in more vulnerable spots. Operation Loki has been given a go - which should make the next few turns interesting indeed.
On the Russian Front, we continued our advance in the south, while reinforcing positions in the center & north. The diversions to the west has cost us space & time....our front is not where it should be at this point.

Japan - Fall 1941
The Kwantung Army has performed most excellently. Its General has returned to Tokyo to be received by the Emperor himself & awarded for completing our operations in China. All of our objectives have been secured & the Chinese army has been all but annihilated.
Further operations will be limited to airstrikes against any attempts to re-raise an army in any of the unoccupied territories - freeing up the majority of our armed forces for operations in other theaters.
Now all depends on agreeing to an acceptable timetable.....

Units in production, Fall 1941: the migration of Soviet production to the Urals has been completed. Summer of 42 will be quite a shocker for the Germans (if we can survive the push in the south!).

Germany - Winter 1941/42
Our stillborn Barbarrossa is now a shambles. The Red Army winter counteroffensive has shattered our lines & has made strategic redeployments mandatory. Field Marshal Manstein staged a brilliant counterattack against the Soviet spearheads in Eastern Poland, stablizing the line somewhat.
For the moment, we are on the defensive & will construct our lines accordingly. The Western Allies are still committed to holding Southern Italy & we will continue to hold them there. The future is grim, while the sun rises in the East.....
PS - can't post an image at the moment - need to shrink the file somewhat.

We sent our bombers to annihilate the remaining Chinese forces & were successful in eliminating one of two remaining regular Chinese units. We continue our redeployment and should conduct future operations later this year.

Soviets, Winter 1942.
Uncle Joe is pleased. Operation Red Fury stopped the Germans cold, and now the Dictator demands more!!! Vasilevsky and Zhukov advise caution, and prevail upon Stalin to fortify the lines by taking back territories in the south where the Germans retreated, and reinforcing other areas. Stalin reluctantly agrees. The Germans have a massive amount of units in construction, but, then again, so does the Rodina, and the Summer of 43 is shaping up to be a titanic struggle on the borders.
We promoted Rokossovksy to command of the newly created Odessa Front and have high hopes for future successes in this area.

Winter 1942 - WA
Nothing much going on. Lend Lease to the Soviet Union was not an option this turn because of winter.
I attacked the Italian fleet with airpower in the Adriatic and sunk a couple of transports.
I attacked Denmark with airpower and damaged an artillery and a Stuka.
Once again, I built lots of supply and researched a lot. ( This is becoming a very familiar theme!!! )
