Save game edit?

Post by Jaws_slith »

Hello,

In PACWAR it was possible to edit a save game. Is this also possible in WitP? I didn't figure it out yet.

Thanks in advance.

No, and it never will be. They encrypt the file to keep PBEM games secure.
So, make the game exactly the way you want with the editor before you start turn one.

Ok thanks[:(] I was not intending to cheat.. I had made a scenario and give a lot of orders in the first turn. But I want to adjust the scenario a little but don't like to give all orders again.

No real reason why non-PBEM games have to be encrypted though, is there?

No, there's no reason why they couldn't leave single player games open. The built-in editor wouldn't work on them though. You'd have to write your own.

That's why I like Paradox games: almost all the files are simple .CSV or text format.
I've very little doubt that a save-game editor will get produced, and the probability increases in proportion to the fanbase. It may not be officially supported though - rather like Championship Manager's one.

The WitP database files also seem to be pretty simple in structure, although not text based. I think there's a high probability that someone could make a save game editor, just as long as we can get uncompressed/unencrypted game saves. If 2by3 don't give us a save game editor, let's hope they can give us the option for saving uncompressed/unencrypted non-PBEM games.
