Myros map mod Version 2 (attn: Spooky)

Post by myros »

Made another whole map mod. Here's the readme thats included and some screenshot examples below:
This is a conversion mod for the War in the Pacific map - for the full map scenarios mainly. It adds/changes the following:

1. Shallow water has been lightened to make it more visible. And the "shelf" between shallow/deep water has been blended more (I didnt like how the original map looks like all land is sitting above sea level on some kind of raised water platform.)

2. Main location names have been removed to prevent Task Force obscuring eg the word "The Philipines" has been removed. If you dont know where the Philipines are ...guess you should play the map unchanged or read a few books ;) (Base names have been left unchanged). Also the large text indicating the sea names have been removed for the same reason. Overall gives a less cluttered map which makes it easier to see all TFs.

3. A faint line has been added to show the borders between major zones ie SW, SE etc

4. Oil production values have been added in a small black square next to base icons for bases which produce it.

As always ... BACK UP YOU ART FOLDER before adding or changing any graphics in case you dont like these changes.

All included files (except this readme) go in your install folder/ART

I like it. I like it a lot.

How did you remove the lettering of locations? I heard that it is an overlay of some kind. I would like to change some names of places (Chinese cities, mostly) to match the modern romanizaton system. If I can do this without having to "paint" the name on the map that would be wonderful.

Also, I'd like to take the oil number indicators off of your map for the scenarios I play with custom values (unless yours are dynamic, which seems impossible). How could I do that? Would it be the same kind of overlay?

Its all painted sorry, no overlays involved. I think the only overlay the game uses is for the detailed hex sides.

Hmm, and just where is that overlay? I suppose it it not an overlay for the entire map, but a repetitive small unit that gets tiled over the map?

Could that overlay be used cleverly to put _dynamic_ numbers on the map? (Probably no, since most of the game files are encrypted)

Couple things -

Make sure you actualy copy the bmp files into the art folder. If your just extracting the zip you may have it set to include folder paths which will just extract everything to a new folder in the ART directory. If your doing it right it will ask for confirmation to overwrite the original file. One way is to just extract the zip to a temp folder then manualy copy the bmp files to your art folder.

Also this mod is for the map with no hex visibile. Which is an option under the game settings - you'll see a toggle that says "show hex" and "no hex" (or something like that) make sure its set to no hex. You can still toggle detailed hex side in game by pressing F6.

Do you have a version of the new mod with the place names? I like having them, but I like your mod, too.[:)]
