saved games and patch

Post by brada1sr »

Hi,
I just play long campaign, and are at the end of jan/42.
Now I'm downloading the patch 1.20, can I use my old saved games (this is the first patch I apply), when I installed the patch, or must I start again from scenario start (since this current game is going good for me I don't want to restart...[;)])?

I read the patch read_me, but nothing inside about it. How much is the real change in the game with this patch?

Thanks

The only thing that the patch effects in your current game is OOB. You don't get the new units added to the game without a restart.

Yep. this the case. Also if you have been playing Japan and have done a 'super-duper' first turn, that goes out the window. Got to create a whole new turn. I must have spent three days working on that. That's the price of progress! [8D]

rogueusmc-

how do you put your banner inside your posts if you don't mind asking? Do you have to insert it each time or is there something in your profile you changed to put in your signature? Anyone can help here? Thanks!

Heres the basic problem:

Anything that has gone wrong is already broken in your save files. This can not be fixed as the information is already wrong. Changes made to correct issues in the OOB are not going to be fixed if you continue your game. Certain major fixes (bases set incorrectly) were made that *will* be giving the AI a heart attack or causing the Convoy system to throw a fit. These changes are in the OOB catagory so continuing a game will not correct these problems. Units that have become corrupted due to air transport or merging ships will not be fixed, they are corrupted for good if you use the save.

I ask you to think about it this way:

The quicker everyone upgrades and plays with new code, the quicker any new code bugs can be found and fixed. There is a limited time that we have someone from 2BY3 dedicated to fixing the code. The more we make use of him while we have him dedicated, the better it will be for all of us (more things are likely to get fixed quicker).

In the end, you are likely to be still playing this game 5 years from now as it is unlikely to ever be replaced by anything else. The more time we (collectively as a big team) invest now in getting it fixed fast, the better we will all be to get down the the more serious aspect of committing a year or so to playing games with other people.

In the end the choice is up to you whether you continue or restart.

A question about this last 1.20 patch. I have not had any problems with this game and have been playing the tutorial. Didn't want to stop it to upgrade with the prior two patches (regis ion and 110c). Do I need to run these two patches prior to installing the 1.20 patch or can I just go to the 1.20 patch without upgrading with the other 2 patches?

This is a complete patch, the interim patches are not required.

Thanks irrelevant but I don't think your link worked, I just get the forums page. I will do a search.

EDIT: I found it, thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong: If I patch the game, any save that I have will not get the OOB fixes, but will still work: i.e I do not have to restart a PBEM game. The patch will still work for any new games, and any game in progress against the AI would need to be restarted.
Is that the gist of it?

Any corruption within your saved game will persist and cause phantom problems in your new patched problem that *ONLY* you will see.

I was going to restart anyway, but that has to be the best reason to do it.. let's use this time well[:)]

I wouldn't restart. this patch didn't fix the biggest bugs. a new patch must be forthcoming that actually fixes something... like the computer controlled TF bug and the invisible LCU bug

Will the next patch also require a restart? Am currently in a #15 PBEM and we are happily restarting. Our first game was a good dry run that taught me many fine points about playing, we got to Dec 30,1941. We are starting in the morning(if download works) with #16, can't wait![8D]

like the computer controlled TF bug

You are going to be waiting a long time since the problem will *not* get fixed until you restart [8|]

Mr. Frag,
What do you mean "restart"? I started a new small scenario (Coral Sea) after patching with 1.2 and I still see the bug... i.e. the computer is generating TFs even though computer controlled supply TFs are not enabled in the scenario.

Any suggestions?

Please list the exact options you have set prior to starting the game and what scenario you are running.

I'm not seeing it here. Gotta be certain combinations of options.
