Patch anger

Post by goodwood »

I have been computer gaming since 1990 and WITP has become the most annoying installment of my gaming life. It was bearable to D/L the game on 56k modem. it was also bearable the game needed patching before I had a chance to complete my D/L. I could even accept the 1st major patch is 25% of the game size, and even the trouble I had getting into members area, due some confusion on my behalf. However trying to get this "obligartry patch" in my little hots hands has just about got me at the end of my tether. Apart from the initial hipcups on again off again patch , and then add a couple false starts I finally D/L the file after about five hours(using DAP), bewdy I thought, let unzip the file. great stuff the file was corrupted. the message I get is

Extracting to WarInThePacific-Patch-v120"
Use Path: yes Overlay Files: no
Extracting WarInThePacific-Patch-v120.exe
Error: invalid compressed data to inflate"

So I posted on the board last night for some help, some advise was given but no luck. So I thought I would try to D/L again overnight. This is where the story really starts to piss me off. I have tried to D\L again using two different D/L managers, and the D\L sight is telling me "Resume " IS NOT supported, what the hell is going on. this game is getting beyond the agro. Do I persist or find another game to play or what. Matrix you have my money, are you going to support your customers or protect your game?

Other facts are: I only have a 56k modem, no ADSL in my area. I have used DAP D/L manager for years, ( it D/L WITP without problems. ) I'm using XP pRo O.S. WITP has run right from the start without the need of any patches. Matrix help me run your product the way u want to run or should run.

You should also note that even if you do manage to download the patch it seems that all of the scenarios which dont have product turned on (the smaller ones) are broken. Currently the japanese player gets no replacement aircraft once the game starts, so they are pretty much unplayable.

Just letting you know in case youll need to download it again. Hopefully an update for this would just be a smaller patch for the patch I guess though.

Perhapos the real question is Do I download, or not to download, or even ask for my money back. If this was a purchase from a retail store, the time I have wasted in the past day or so, I telling u I would in that store creating so much commotion the store manager would happy to return my money.. How limited is a limited Warranty?

I thought on the Digital River site, that it said all sales are final? Anyway, have you tried contacting Matrix at all? They have been helping a lot of people. I know you are angry, but if you haven't contacted Matrix you really need to.

Also, so you did use a download manager to download the patch? Are you right clicking on the link and trying to download the file called download.asp.zip? If so that is an .asp page and not the patch. I downloaded the patch twice, the second time with download accelator and everything worked fine. The only trick is to paste the url path into the add url feature of download acceltator.

Also there is a post in the support forum, called "can someone send me the patch". If all else fails I am sure one of the OZ players could send you a cd in the mail. Either way, you can get the patch, this is a great community of people and we will help you out.

Yep done that. (Double clicked need to do that to choose which manager to use if u have more than one manager) the thing that bothers me is the the message "resume not supported, u could alway blame the D/L manager for this, but it is a bit of a coincidence that both say the same. I using DAP and the other one u suggested yesterday.

Thankyou Sir, your suggestion has got the D\L going again. [:)] also now I have vented frustration, things work more clearly [:)] thanks again for getting me back on track, but it doesn't alter my view on the way Matrix is releasing the patch. I hope they take it on board.
