Well Dadman got a banana in his tailpipe.

I didn't even bother running the replay. I thought "hey, he see's me going south, maybe he'll think I'm going to whack Noumea and try to cut me off. That's what I would have done.

So, after running south past Ponape (and hitting it so that he would know I was headed that way), I turned east, headed for PH planning to strike Kawajalein on the way by.

And then... THE FREAKIN SKY OPENED UP LIKE NOSTRADAMUS COULD NOT HAVE FORSEEN.

I've yet to see an Allied player NOT go on the offensive as soon as the bell rings. Not sure if it's just impatience, knowing that patches are forthcoming so a long game is not envisioned, the Mach 2 capability given Japan in the opening move so the Allied player feels pressured to strike back, the spawning rule which punishes the Allied player by denying him the four historic Essex class hulls (CVs 10, 12, 16, 18) if he does not lose 4 prewar carriers, or a combination of all of the above.

Interesting battle in any case guys![;)]

My big mistake was to try and outflank him twice. I didn't let the original feint to the south extend long enough, and I didn't know where his CVs were. I should have kept going straight for Oz until they were definately located.

Let's face it. The Nells were what killed both of my CVs... He got inside my head (a tight fit I might add) and guessed correctly.

The nells were crappy. They did a freakin poor job, and continue to do so again (they're tired is their excuse). about 80 nells launch this turn at the survivors and get about 3 torp hits. yay.

This turn marks a change in dadman's air tactics. His fighters have stopped their hopeless attempts at bombing and are now doing the 100ft strafe and bomb thing. No success so far . . .

KB adds a couple of enemy ca to the sunk ship list as revenge for all the ships I lost at wake.

Now, if only I could find POW and Repulse, this game would look mighty good. Of course - I did spot colorado entering pearl last turn (one of my subs had a go and missed). I know there is at least 1 working enemy bb in the wake area, probably 2, makes a bit of extra preparation for the midway invasion worthwhile.

In an effort to draw off attacks from Lexington and Enterprise, I sent their screening ships to shell the Kawajalein. They got hammered, but I expected that. They were going to get it anyway, so why not go down fighting.

Well the carnage has really continued here. I caught about 15 transports trying to sneak out of the SRA with betties out of kendari 3 turns running and well, none of them made it I think. I've pulled off about 6 mid ocean intercepts with various surface combat groups and I think Dadman hasn't saved all that much out of the SRA, although i think he got some AS ships out, which is a pity. I did damage them all at one stage however, so i'm thinking that he will have to base his subs at least as far back as java.

his wounded ships play hide and seek with my sub pickets northeast of pearl. I intend to finish off a few of his damaged bbs (I didn't do that well at pearl) hopefully. His asw is too good atm however.

He tried to deliberate attack at clark (and shove my japs back) but I had 3 divisions and an armoured unit sitting there and outnumbered him about 12 to 1. He lost a thousand men and went home.

So far so good. Will post some screenies fairly soon.

Luskan took Kendari early on, and it was a good move, as he can now tear up any vessel that tries to flee toward Surabaya. I waited too long to move them out of Manila. He sinks everything that moves.

My BBs have successfully escaped his sub picket line between Pearl and San Francisco. They shall live to fight another day. I'd trade them for my 2 CVs though...

The war continues in a surprisingly uneven way.

In Burma I'm hammered dadman, I've got thousands of his troops cut off at moulmein and I have divisions on hand to crush them and those at Rangoon. I don't think burma has ever gone htis well this early for me.

In the PI I hold all of Luzon north and east of Clark - and Clark will fall soon enough because I ahve lots of troops and have beaten dadman's troops back.

In malaya on the other hand, I've got khota bharu and that's it. I'm stuck at Alor star, with 2 divsiions unable to break the ever strengthening allied defence there. They reduce the fort, but are unable to keep disruption etc low enough to capitolise the next turn, so next turn the fort is back to 5 and more allied troops roll in while his bombers hit my transports. Malay hasn't gone well. I have another division at kuantan now and I hope to take it and then cross the peninsula and cut those bastards at alor star off from singapore. Will let you know how that goes.

In the pacific, well I've got two of his 3 cvs sunk, and he won't risk saratoga (or he'll loose her as a few other impatient allied commanders tend to do). But better yet, my little gambit at noumea has paid off - I've taken Koumac - so the whole island with noumea on it is MINE. best of all, Sopac surrendered this turn at Koumac, having fought a defensive withdrawal the length of the island. It will be months before Sopac returns to dadman's OOB, and in the meantime units assigned to this HQ (not very many to be honest) are going to lack reinforcements, support and direction. Now unless nimitz was made Sopac's commander, this can't get any better than it already is.

Dadman was bombarding my advancing troops with Anzac CAs and CLs. Why he didn't FT Sopac out of there before my troops took them down I'll never know. Again, he isn't the first allied opponent to loose to this little gambit (thanks to Frag).

Whenever I paly the allies I load up AKs (yes, not Aps because I'm not waiting for them) with that US division on the west coast and sending them to Noumea at full speed. Even though the japs will still take noumea first, if they wish, the us division would have unloaded at the other end of the island before the japs had reached the middle of it (thus saving sopac, and wiping out whatever units japan committed to that fight). This opening gambit is easily countered for the fast moving allied player, and turned into a defeat for japan.

I've yet to see an Allied player NOT go on the offensive as soon as the bell rings. Not sure if it's just impatience, knowing that patches are forthcoming so a long game is not envisioned, the Mach 2 capability given Japan in the opening move so the Allied player feels pressured to strike back, the spawning rule which punishes the Allied player by denying him the four historic Essex class hulls (CVs 10, 12, 16, 18) if he does not lose 4 prewar carriers, or a combination of all of the above.

Well you are looking at one ! I have learnt that you have to just bend over and take it like a man for the first 6 months.........even 12 for that matter........but come '43 and it's time to start swinging back.[:D]
