Altitude influence on fighting

Post by kaiser73 »

The manual is rather not clear about altitude and how they alter battle result.

I know that fighters must be put at 100 to get them strafing. and i know the altitude in general is the travel time and not the altutede they attack.

However, for the rest:

1) for every bomber (dive, torpedo, level), what altitude is better for them? and to hit ships, or airfields or cities?
Sometimes i attack some transports with level bombers, and usually i don't hit a shit.

There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.

Sundevil,

How are you getting the entire path name to show up so you can link to other threads. I cannot cut and paste a thread, because every thread only shows up as www.matrixgames.com

Right click on the thread and open it in a new window, this will then display the whole url, where you can copy it.

Don't need all that, see the funny little arrow point up beside the message ID: #### in the lower right corner of the message?

Just right click on is and select copy shortcut.

Then paste it here:

Not sure what the experts say but my Sallys like 8000 feet to bomb Allied ships.. I get decent returns at this level.. Good hits, with little flak - well at least against small convoys and merchies.

I send tactical bombers at 1000 feet, heavy's at 6000 feet when going ship hunting. [:'(]

Against land targets, that low an altitude will result in mass death [:D]

Dive/TB are different then level.

Dive are 10k or higher, TB are 5K so they get good sighting (but you will loose lots)

Never waste TB's againt land targets, they are too rare and too easy to kill.

Cap flys at roughtly 3k above the bombers.

I like to mix in a sweep mission with the cap + bombers.

The sweep will engage the cap at a nice high altitude then what lives will engage the escort.

You need to look at it from your desired goal.

One other thing to note, ASW/Naval search aircraft are more likely to drop on a target spotted the lower they fly, but they are also more likely to be shot down.

This is what I wanted someone to post on this subject for about 3 weeks. Thanks Mr. Frag.
